Super for speech and guitar

Michael059, 04.03.2012
I have been using the ThreeQ for several months now with my Sennheiser MD421 microphone and my electric guitar or a distortion and am completely satisfied.

The operation is very catchy. The manual provides detailed descriptions of the application scenarios and, above all, conveys the necessary technical details in a very comprehensible manner. Thus the use of a compressor with its parameters was previously not so well known. The explanation in the manual is always enough. In doing so, attention is also drawn to problems without too much elbowing or digression: for example, the effects of extreme controller settings for the compressor.

Also the instructions for the equalizer and the connections are readable. In addition, the connection possibilities in a picture are clearly illustrated.

In short, the manual is exemplary and accurate in the way I am used to from old products (from the 1960s). Above all, it is in printed form, which I highly appreciate! The only drawback: it is in English language - at least in my case. Who can read English, will be happy about the guide ^ ^

The amplifier is sufficient for my SENNHEISER MD421 and the following settings:
- half to three-quarter switch position (at input, + 25- + 40 dB).
- Output controller almost full (+15 dB)

Thus, the output stage compensates for the lower pre-amplification and I get a signal-to-noise ratio of over 70 dB with the microphone. I have not measured it. As a leisure-listening speaker, I am always satisfied; O)

Please note that my micro is very high impedance and requires a proper amplification, so that I can use it to record my sound card (Soundblaster X-Fi). My fear was that pre-amplification would not be enough. Fortunately, this is by far not the case!

The + 16dB of the output stage is added to the maximum microphone preamplifier of + 60dB. Practically useful for me are at most good + 50-55 dB at the input and +15 at the output, because in the extreme position the noise level suddenly increases strongly. I do not need that extreme amplification but neither, neither with the micro, nor with the guitar.

In addition, the output can be switched between + 4dBu and -10dBV, which is practically loud / quiet, O) For the sound card, I choose the setting + 4dBu.

Thicker: Micro and electric guitar can not be used at the same time (the threeQ is one-channel), but both can remain connected. At the front is a switch: Line / Micro. Saves permanent re-plugging.

I am also very satisfied with the guitar response: from the electric guitar the signal is clean or via my distortion into the line input of the ThreeQ. There I can first switch the compressor - which I honestly never used and therefore can not evaluate. The following three-band equalizer I quickly won ^ ^ The middle range is by the way adjustable, see manual.

Not tested are: Insert input, Mix input and Monitor output (before the power amplifier). The use is nicely sketched in the manual, I 'm so far simply not needed.

Note: The ThreeQ does not have an on / off switch. This is not bad, since I always take the power supply from the plug. For safety, I stöpple previously also the connection on the ThreeQ. If you want to block the ThreeQ, think about it and use eg a disconnectable socket.

The trigger in the equipment (features), I give, since the LED level indicator in the microphone mode is unusable - it is apparently only adapted to the line input. There she works great with my guitar recordings. As a speaker I would have a level gauge but better to use. After all, my recording programs all offer a level display on the PC. Therefore, there is only one point.

All in all, the recordings with the ThreeQ make a lot of fun. The housing and the controls are high-quality, look good for my taste and feel good! The sound quality is optimal for my concerns. For both microphone and guitar recordings, I do not even need the full pre-amplification. Better is only with nem on / off switch and a well adjusted level indicator for microphone recordings, O)

Thanks to Jomeek for the wonderful ThreeQ, thank you also to thomann for the fast delivery!

Good sounding channelstrip

Teisco, 12.10.2009
I use the Joemmek mainly for recording purposes as well as now and then for live applications. It always serves as a microphone preamp and is operated by me with a large diaphragm microphone and with a dynamic micro. In both modes, the ThreeQ convinces through a precise, clear and balanced sound.

Its well-balanced equalizer makes it easy to find the right setting for every voice, and the photo-optical compressor, which can be switched as the equalizer, also works to my satisfaction. The Joemeek was "designed" in England and is produced in China. The price performance is in any case correct and one has a good also for professional purposes applicable device.

It is also ideal for the acceptance of acoustic guitars. To do this you just have to connect a suitable micro to it and you can start. The compressor is no longer necessary in this mode and the equalizer can be used to send out the weaknesses of the corresponding guitar. This gives you a really good sound!
