To buy without losing too much

lor.jp6, 12.06.2017
I started with the idea of ??buying the standard version but in the end I decided and chose this. Never made the best choice.
The custom version has a much higher cleanliness, so the clean stays clean with the gain between 1 and 2, even bringing the volume to the maximum (just color a bit).

Bring the gain over the 4th comes to a really beautiful, warm and full crunch.

The overdrive channel is a portent. With the 4th gain it is already quite good to use as Lead. The sound is full and stays sharp up to gain up to 7 8.

Effects are definitely taken from the loop loop and even in live.

The maximum volume of cleaning is definitely lower than that of the overdrive but in the test room with a noisy drummer and another guitar will still be highlighted without any problems.

Adding low or mid boost switches and bright switches add a wide range of sounds.

The only "counter" if we want to be fussy is the only eq for both channels but just spend a little extra time.

Ultimately, definitely worth a try.

But good !!

Benoît195, 12.09.2016
An excellent Q / P ratio than this small 20W!

First of all: 20W repeats: no problem, it is enough even with an edgy drummer.
For the house, there is going to be more complicated: the 2 volumes are rather progressive on the whole but it is obvious that the sound only arrives from a certain sound volume, it is physical.
I use an attenuator (the Jettenuator in this case that had disappointed me with my old amp but with the Custom 22, the sound is good even if we lose a bit of the upper spectrum and dynamic, but to work quietly at The house without alerting the whole neighborhood, it does it well!)
And for the concerts, we are transplanted so ...

The EQ settings are effective, we find its sound easily, from the moment we like the general voicing of the amp I would call "American-British" with a ratio of 30-70%. It seems that the guy Martin Kidd has mainly focused on the preamp part: when we mainly solicit the power section, we find more this US side fairly straight JCA classic (base Soldano) but if we go a little more In the preamp, the British side wanted by the Kidd arrives (well, on the other hand, it twists faster necessarily!). Let everyone find the right balance.

The addition of the switches compared to the JCA 22H brings a more undeniable (cf later) as well as the reduction of gain on the channel Crunch:
By playing with the knobs, you get to have a clean "fat" on the Crunch even with a good volume of repeat (understand: clean when you attack soft, if you push, it twists).
I love it, it's my game, for fans of clean to the Fender, it may not be the most sensible choice.
The channel Drive: the addition of gain by cons, good, it can please but there, sends a little too much. Personally, I stay at 4/10 on average and it is already full-bodied. We play 2 guitars in a group, if we push the satus too much, we hear no more, it does not change, it is not a question of amp!

Like any amp head, the end result will necessarily depend on the cab on which it will be plugged.
The switches will make it possible to catch up a little bit of the lack / excess of the hp (s).
At the moment, I am on a cab 1x12 closed with a Celestion G12T Hot 100 which is not the best choice for this amp in my opinion, hp rather neutral but with a slightly V-shaped EQ (bass and treble present, mediums one I think it's a bit of a bump in the middle of the game. It is only 97dB but 100W so we must push on for the hp to express itself. The next one will be a Greenback or assimilated anyway less powerful, I'm still looking. I will publish at this time.

At the level of the lamps, the Chinese do their job; On the forums, they say that we gain a bit of fluffy for example with JJ, good, to see in time ...

Small detail, the head delivered had Chicken Head button and not the rounds as in the pictures.

Review: really a good amp for the price (the extension compared to the classic JCA 22H is worth it, anyway, a tech will take at least 80 to 100E to do just a DepthMod so ...)
The guitar is very good: Strat, Tele, LP, we have the sound of the guitar (the rhythmics of the devil with the Tele in micro bridge and the switches bright and mid, sends very very well !! )
A very good purchase, just stay to find the cab and especially the hp that suits him well.
In this regard, it is clearly stipulated in the notice that the output transformer is strong enough to support 4 ohms. So, personally, every day, I would not try but to try a cab at the turn of a rehearsal, a concert ... it can be practical.

Edit of 10/11/16:
Always also content with this head!
I changed the Hp for a Greenback in closed cab, it's much better, more organic, more rock, more ... better !! We can more easily move from softness to aggressiveness depending on the game, the guitars ... (25 W of hp for a head 20 W, it is already more logical ...)
An EQ in the loop and especially a Noise gate and it is impec '(because although this amp does not blow as much as a Marshall, on the channel drive, it snores a little bit)
Rq: the other guitarist of the band is jealous of my sound, nevertheless it has much more expensive stuff, like what prices sometimes ...
