Perfect for desktop music and portable recording.
Baldylocks, 08.05.2019
I purchased the JBL One Series primarily as a good quality desktop speaker for music in the hope that they would also serve some purpose as a decent set of speakers for recording remotely at a bandmates apartment etc.
I'm extremely happy with the One Series 104 as a desktop speaker. They produce a rich, clear and full sound with lots of power behind it and the volume control on the front of the speaker allows you to strike a nice balance between the built in amps volume and the input volume.
Regarding their use as a studio monitor I find them excellent as something portable that I can use on the move, but for any final mixing etc. I will always refer back to my dedicated KRK studio monitors.
While sounding great the One Series don't deliver the same flat response and clarity the larger KRK's do, but of course you can't expect them to as they don't take up as much space and are considerably cheaper.
The build quality of the One Series is also excellent. They have a nice weight to them which feels like they have a really solid build.
In summary I would highly recommend these speakers.
For the price they're an excellent value choice as a space saving, great sounding, powerful music speaker while also being a great choice for recording or monitoring on the move.

Rather multimedia as a monitor
AnalogSteph, 27.04.2019
I bought the JBL 104 as a better multimedia PC speaker. This is probably the design of their market.

Processing:
Quite massive for the size, and the case makes a neatly processed impression. It is clear in the form of plastic, but hollow sounds nothing. The ring around the ratcheted volume control front lights discreetly white (in standby darker). The mating of the power cable and socket is not very reliable here, so I have to try another one. The grids seem a bit sensitive (Edding FTW). The cable to the passive second box is of fairly modest cross-section, but at least the ends are tinned. Also, the stereo jack RCA cable is plentifully simple, but fulfills its purpose - so you can immediately plug in the computer and get started.

Domestic equipments:
Front volume, rear power switch, Cinch inputs (consumer level up to 2 Vrms) and balanced jack (up to +20 dBu), plus Aux input and 3.5 mm front KH output. Due to the channel-separated inputs at the back, the channel assignment L / R can be selected as required. Automatic standby after 19 minutes (can be switched off). Reactivation is quite sensitive, but takes a fraction of a second.

sound:
Warm, full, Loudness tendency - the frequency record in the "User's Guide" (Download) confirms the slight mid-range depression, the low-frequency amplification when operating on the desk (= interface) does the rest.
After all: The sweet spot is quite large; at an angle the heights are getting more and more away, but there are no pronounced anomalies (coax with deep separation must be good for something). Clear contrast to my Tascam VL-X5, for example, where TMT and HT are quite close.
Noise is audible (again typical JBL), but not very disturbing; only from volume 14:00 further increase. Since you're almost glad about the losses of a passive crossover.
The draft is ~ 100 Hz for the size OK, that is the
Level stability (in a rather low-reflection environment) more than adequate. It's really amazing what works with a 19mm caliber separate at 1725 Hz (on top of that!), Even if you now consider the bass cone as Waveguido.

Conclusion:
The use as a multi-media multimedia speaker is little contrary, for the operation as monitors should, however, better pull the EQ and also bring them with stands on ear level. But then I see quite potential (apart from the Tiefbaß).
To be honest, the built-in electronics are almost a bit too simple for me in the price range, but good, so a coax driver does not develop and produce itself (apparently the cheapest 4 "coax, a Dayton CX120-8, still costs about 30) US $ in larger quantities and could not even be as deeply separated as necessary, not to mention the serial spread), and if they do not go now after 1-2 years on the Jordan like some cheaper product, it should be me right ,
Portable, I would not use them, the bean shape of the speakers and the sometimes fumbling wiring speak clearly against it.

How to get those things in case of doubt - good question, no idea. There are obviously two housing halves, screws or something like that are not visible. What do these newfangled constructions always complicate ...
