Hammer Bass at Discount Price

Wolfgang E., 27.01.2016
The Ibanez SRFF-806 is now the 6th bass in my current collection and overall safe number 15 or 16. (Mist ... Have I really sold so many basses again?)

Last year, a 6-string Freddy Fredless had intervened as a 5-string player. Since I now have a band for a few months where I use this much more often, I've come back to taste. Since depending on the monitoring a collar bass is much better to act is an additional 6er. So I do not always have the usual finger sets.

When I rummage I quickly hit the Ibanez. So far I had no experience with instruments with Fanned Frets. However, I always paid attention to the 35th scale on the H-string. The videos on the bass looked promising. Also the reviews.

So he was ordered by Thomann in October. Obviously the edition is very limited. Last week came surprisingly 3 weeks before the announced date the delivery.

Now finally to the bass. Impression. Absolutely positive. Very professional processing. Has the wood grip I like so much. The neck has an incredibly slim profile. Together with the very low string position a perfect playability results. Purely played by the bass, the bass rattles. You can not hear it any more. You can hear the growling and the excellent sustain of the bass.

The H-string (here with 35.5 scale) sounds fantastic. Already wing-like. The strings are very well balanced. Considering that Dingwall and other suppliers of Fanned Frets call minimum 2500 euros for the instruments, the Ibanez is almost a bargain.

My concern that the Fanned Frets would be a major switch would be unfounded.
Do not look ... Just start playing.

The bass is free of background noise. In the passive setting it sounds extremely balanced. If you switch to a neutral EQ position, nothing changes on the sound. Only when you intervene with the controllers. Here is my only slightly negative point. I have the controls almost too brutally in the sound. This requires an extreme fingertip feeling. Of course you can also mix right-wing sound.

The tunable centers I know not yet so completely for me to sort. I "tangled" a little bit in testing and in the search for the frequency which I like in the middle personally best. Very versatile. But perhaps also something of the good too much. But I've only been on the bass for a week. The experience has yet to come.

Conclusion. In any case its very worthwhile purchase. Playability, sound - top. Optics is taste. I find it very appealing would have only designed the inlays differently.

In the next time, the sandbergs have a break, first time in the Ibanez reinspielen. Definitely a tip for testing.

Supplement:

Unfortunately, I have to revise my positive impression. Playability and unreinforced sound are still great.

But....
What is Ibanez doing for an electric system? Maybe I got a montage instrument. But if you play the bass for more than half an hour, he goes to his knees. The output drops dramatically. The active mode starts to tug. If you switch into the passive mode, the switch that one gets anxiety around his boxes gets and one has almost no output more. (Should not it be exactly the opposite?)

Now I have the bass again after a month and a half months, in which he was twice with Ibanez (once no defect found, once Bass-Poti exchanged) again in hands. And the error reappears unchanged.

The solution is still pending. He goes back to Thomann. This "quality" I would not have expected from Ibanez. Annoying.

Good and good

Torsten5194, 05.05.2016
Ibanez simply builds basses to play. Thought-proof design, very versatile sounds adjustable, and very well set from home.
The conversion from normal scale to fanned went smoothly. The only drawback is the sharp lower edge of the saddle, must be cleared, I first helped with a fluffy hairy rubber, come with me anyway always in front of the saddle.
The somewhat rough D? Addario strings are not my taste, but some strings have to be on it, and D`Addario are otherwise quite good.
For a 6-string, this bass is very light, the flat neck can be played very well, so: Highly recommended,
For the money you get only a "cooking spoon".
