Quirky Delay!

Benni D., 11.07.2016
The Ibanez ES2 Echo Shifter not only looks really cool, but offers up a pretty unique take on an analog delay pedal.

Playing on the analog and retro theme of the pedal, you get a central fader to control the delay time, which ranges from 30ms to 1000ms (pretty good range for an analog delay). The delay sound itself is very dark, sitting underneath your original signal and has tonal qualities similar to tape delay. It's a beautiful sound - a far call from the crystal clear repeats of modern digital delays - with this you get something quirky and reminiscent of days gone by. It looks old and it sounds old.

You definitely get the charm and characteristics of the analog sound, but this pedal is not fully analog, as evidenced by the inclusion of a tap tempo switch - not that thats a bad thing, analog and digital are married together well in this pedal.

Other features of the delay include a mix control, and feedback knob. Feedback controls the amount of signal getting delayed, however if you turn on the oscillation switch, feedback can push the unit to the next level where it starts self oscillating and delaying its delays. Things get really crazy!

The other switch turns on the pedals modulation mode, which is increased with the depth knob, allowing for further craziness!

The pedal feels pretty well built, although I wouldn't want to try to move the delay time fader with my foot for fear of breaking it.

The ES2 obviously takes guitar signal really well, but it also takes line level signals from a DAW pretty well!

If you're in the market for a weird and quirky analog delay pedal, I'm not sure you can get much better than this.

underrated future classic

Hugh Horsevalley, 08.01.2016
This is not just a delay pedal it's a serious sonic tool ,with switching options you get 4 dlay pedals in one with tap tempo.
I'm going with minor faultsfirst here with mine the green tap tempo light always flashes can't be turned off i see in demo videos that it shouldn't!, had to fit a cover over it but that's nitpicking and secondly and i think this is the case for everyone who has one of these the battery is not powerful enough to turn on this pedal let alone run it (yes i tried different batteries it only worked when i hooked a power supply to the battery connections so you need a power supply to run this don' rely on batteries.
these are the only faults i could find and all that is forgotten about when i use the pedal i'm still 100% happy i got it. it blows my mind how much variety this pedal offers. and the sound quality is amazing.
if you like slapback ,tape vintage sound ,1/4 notes harmonics ,repeats what ever you want you can get it here! Added to that the two most useful features the slider and the mix knob and possibilities are endless.
under a different brand this would prob be a 400¤ pedal and i think it suffered from this perspective but itS worth evry cent.
