Tubemeister 36 Review, your portable pal?

Bernadette W., 18.05.2013
I'm a boogie/fender user and this amp is used for home & smaller gigs. 1st off, it's suprisingly small, about the size of a toaster. Don't let the size fool you, this amp is very powerful indeed. Nice be fat lows which don't break up when sparkling clean. The clean is very bell-like but not cheap sounding and is probably my favourite channel in the amp.
The 2nd channel is also very nice but can get raspy at higher gains. I like the tone and the low to medium settings, anything beyond medium and its starts sounding like a marshall which I personally dont like.
The 3rd channel is my least favourite but again, at lower gain settings sounds better.
Overall, I love the fact that the channels can be changed via midi. I use a couple of midi controlled rack units and this is so easy to program.

The power soak opens up very different tones and gains but in truth, I haven't experimented too much with that yet.

The red box di sounds excellent and is great for wet/dry/wet setups. I really like that the amp automatically puts a dummy load across the speaker output if nothing is connected, a safety feature that all manufacturers should consider as standard with their amps!

The front panel layout is a little unusual for someone not used to H&K but it is intuitive. The amp looks incredible when lit up and the included padded bag is a very welcome addition. This won't stay in the van but I can walk into a gig with my guitar and amp in 1 lift!

Highly recommended if you're open to something thats sounds a little different. Very practical and portable. I would replace it if I lost it.

Masterclass Tubemeister 36

N.C.H., 11.10.2012
Rock on stage. Play at home. Record at night. So the brief description of the company, but can the small amp keep these promises?

But first the look. To the Hughes & Kettner typical blue appearance one must actually say very little. Either you find it (just like me) just sau cool; or not.
"Sweet part you drag there," was the first comment of the band colleagues. Because the tube master 36 is really not big. It is so light that you can still carry it without problems with one hand.

But now to the important the sound:

Clean:
The Cleansound is just awesome. If you have the master nearly at the stop (because of the built-in power soak no problem but more later) and Gain on 6 clock turns the amp begins to sing genial genius.
Though I'm actually from the tougher gait I played the amp when he first arrived a few hours only in Cleankanal, because my guitar (PRS SE Paul Allander Signature) for a long time no Cleankanal sounded so full.
The warm and gentle tube distortion in the clean sound just makes huge fun and Headroom has the whole thing synonymous.
In addition, the channel has its own 3-band sound control.

Crunch:
From fine Blues Zerre to a British rock board ala Vox.
The Crunch Channel offers one thing above all. Dynamics.
If he is also more about the power amp and less about the gain, he reacts to the guitarist's style. When you play gently, single notes come clear, and when you are strung into the strings, he tugs really well. A feel like in this price class with hardly an amp.
The crunch channel shares a 3-band sound control with the lead channel.

Lead:
From rock to lead sounds to Classik Metal.
To lead the lead channel is simply brilliant. Sound technically, I had to turn my humbuck guitar on the middle already neatly to have a not so dull sound, but thanks to the really necessary sound control was also no problem. With my Fender, he also sounds great in the lead when all controls are at 6 o'clock.
Now closer to the complaint. Although the channel is clear, individual nuances in riffs are not lost. With Soli, the thing is just fun.
The amp does not produce the total metal board, but remains true.
The amp can also press but it is not a metal monster. If you're looking for a Death Metal amp, this is definitely the wrong address, as the damped notes do not get as bold as with a metal amp ala Engl.

Effects and Co.
- As the only onboard effect, the Tubemeister delivers a reverb, which in the clean channel, but also in soli of the more emotional kind genuinely gives a lot.
It is great that the reverb is adjusted to the channel, ie, if it is equal to the Cleankanal is clearly louder than the Crunch or Lead channel.
- The built-in FX loop with send and return has the amp also.
- Well, to the absolute sahnstück of the amp. It has a built-in Powersoak, which increases the power of the power amplifier from 36 maximum to 18 (switch off one of the tube pairs), to 5.1 (room volume) or 0 Watt (speaker out) (by a built-in load resistor, Down.
- The 36 watts should be enough for anyone who does not want to play without a PA before 2000 people.
- Channel switching, reverb and FX loop can be controlled via foot switch.
- The blast is that you can control the power soak, the reverb, the FX loop and the channels via a midi board. The amp is so what all effects on the back and the channels affects completely midi-capable and programmable.
It has only one Midi-In (with phantom power 7-pole, 5 pole cable simply does not use the phantom power) and no midi-out, therefore maximum of 128 combinations are possible and you can not even without Trixen in a larger Midi loop But hey the part costs only 800 euros.
- The amp also has a red box out with speakersimulation. And at night with headphones to play is also not a bad thing, dedoch I still recommend for recordings also by microphone to take off, since boxes with space simply still more natural and therefore for me synonymous sound better
- Impendency is from 8-16 Ohm, which can also be connected without problems a 4x12er box.
- Hughes & Kettner's TSC Tube Protection and Alignment System is also on board.

All in all a clear purchase recommendation if you want a lot for little money. I have really spent hours on the Internet to buy a flexible and bold sounding amp for my price class, and that is definitely the Tubemeister 36.

+ Genial sound on all 3 channels
+ Midi-compatible
+ Built-in power soak
+ Built-in dynamic reverb
+ Good gameplay
+ TSC

- Not Death Metal
- No midi out

Played over 112 he Tubemeister Box with Stratocaster and PRS.
