A lot of guitar with a few niggles
David132, 18.08.2018
Certainly not a guitar for somebody that likes to scrutinise and critic the fine details, as there will be flaws on in finish and a few corners cut to get the price down, but with a good set up, it is the perfect gigging guitar as it offers a huge range of sounds, and you don't have to worry to much if it picks up a knock or two on the road.

I had quite expectations as I had seen videos of the prototypes on youtube, however there seem to have been a couple of changes between the prototypes and the production line models.

First impressions are OK rather than Wow!, this is due to the discolouration in the quilt effect finish, the Aqua colour is a little insipid and it?s looks a little yellow (aged) around the edges, almost as if a vintage tint lacquer has been used as a top coat and they have gone a little heavy handed on the edges, generally speaking it looks more yellow and duller than the proto type in the youtube video.

Also the fretboard on mine was bone dry giving it a cheap dusty uncared for look, the nut had excess bits clinging on to the string grooves, and the action was very high (8/64th 12th fret bass side). Generally the finish does not look as good as say a PRS SE, but of course the PRS SE would be at least twice if not 3 times the price, and the hardware spec would still not be as good.

Playability/Sound
The high action was mainly due to too much relief in the truss rod, so that sorted the action is now down to around 4/64ths (12th fret bass side), frets are all level and well dressed, although they will benefit from a polish as they are a bit scratchy in places.
BTW the neck is slim, but not as slim as an Ibanez wizard I would guess around 21mm at the first fret, talking of frets access upto to the 22nd is good , but needs a little push to reach the 24th, where as with my Ibanez S770 it?s very easy to reach the 24th fret due to the slimmer heel.

As I feared the retaining bar behind the nut (that wasn't on the proto type) does effect the tuning and you could hear the strings pinging as they returned to pitch, with the retaining bar removed the strings returned to pitch ok as long as you don't pull up on the bar, as the pitch returns sharp, so staggered tuners or roller string trees are needed if you are worried about the strings lifting out of the nut slots.

The locking tuners seem OK not really high quality but not really cheap either, and I noticed my guitar had been strung with several string wraps which rather defeats the object of locking tuners.

Sound is a personal thing but the pickups work very well, they have a huge range of classic tones from Rock to Jazz using the humbuckers, and the single coil and coil taps give you all your strat like tones, sound wise it?s a very versatile set up, personally I see no need to change the pickups as they do exactly what I bought this guitar for.

Once I?ve done a bit more setup work and oiled the fretboard etc. I?m sure this guitar will work well for me. I am a little disappointed in the over all look but you only notice that on close inspection and for the money it's a lot of guitar.

Unfortunately I continued having tuning issues with the Wilkinson tremolo, and when I finally took it apart to check the knife edges, I found they were chewed up. I contacted Thomann and they said ?This small cosmetic problems will not cause any problems when it comes to neither the sound, nor the playability?. Regrettably my only option is to now buy a new tremolo, as the damaged one provided just won?t allow the strings to return to pitch.

Looking for the perfect affordable guitar !
mropeel, 08.11.2018
I got this guitar yesterday and my first impressions were WOW - for the money - FAB !! Now that I have had a chance to take a closer look I feel it is time to pass reasonable comment on it.

I have many Gibson, Fender and Ibanez guitars. I am also a JHS key player and own a Fret King which I have fitted with Roland GK3 pickup. I am always on the look out for something inspiring, something with a tremelo, without a locking nut (can take too long to tune if you only have an hour to set up the whole band) , that I can also fit with a GK3. (Our keys player left and it made sense for me to enhance my guitar with synth sounds) So I spotted the HB Fusion Pro ... I was intrigued. I like tall frets. (narrow and tall like JD 6105) I like flat boards. I use 10 gauge strings. I like 24 frets and I like a nice finish. Weirdly the finish was the thing that put me off these guitars ... I prefer a flame to a quilt. But I was still intrigued.

So out of the Box ... I was VERY surprised. Yes the finish is a little light but I think it looks amazing. The build quality is flawless. It has a vintage chime like a Strat but with more bottom end. the neck is comfortable to the hand and usually for a guitar in this price bracket, I would have to dress the frets to make them all play ... not on this ... the frets and the nut were perfect. All I had to do was slightly lower the action and get rid of the damned awful retaining bar at the nut that prevents the guitar staying in tune and fit a roller tree to the 1st 2 strings.

Only real gripe is the Trem. It's a Wilkinson VS50 (which from my past experience, doesn't look 100% real as the writing looks like it's been stamped into the metal rather than cast ... but this just could be the way they make them now... The gripe is its a 52mm spacing. I prefer 54mm. Takes a bit of getting used to .. and the neck although comfortable is slightly narrower than a Strat or Ibanez ...

All that said, I love it ... there's nothing that can't be tweaked and nothing to make me scared to route a cavity in the back etc. for the Synth electronics.

My rating ? ... for the money, it would be hard to find anything better.... 100% recommended ... i'd actually love my own signature model. LOL ....

P.S. ..... I just bought another and it turned up flawless. I have 2 now.
