Gibson SG Standard Reissue VOS Trem

Electric guitarIf not for the good old Angus Young, the Gibson SG may well have been forgotten in the 80s and early 90s. Now it is celebrating its big comeback. No wonder: the sound, despite not being quite as tight in the bass as sister Paula, is very lively and aggressive. It is suitable for modern variations of rock music as well, so for many the SG is the rock guitar par excellence. Blues sounds can also be elicited, especially with the neck pickup. Turn down the tone control and you get Eric's "Woman Tone".

The SG Standard Reissue VOS Trem is basically a 61 model: Original design with the electronics mounted in wood (small pickguard), perfectly shaped very light mahogany and perhaps the fastest neck that Gibson has ever "carved". The two tame PAF types: a Burstbucker Pro 1 with moderate output on the neck which produces virtually no noise and has a clean tone that really make sense - and the Burstbucker Pro 2 on the bridge, which is a little heavier but is still no unmusical screamer. The Faded Cherry finish looks really antique and the Maestro tremolo makes the guitar just that more original than the 61 Reissue. Originally, the Trem was (yes, it had to be called Vib ...) always there, only there were some guitarists prefer replaced with a stopbar tailpiece. Today however, one wants to return to the original, making the Standard Reissue the first choice!

Vintage flair pure

Gert D., 12.12.2009
To describe a GIBSON SG in detail would be like water carried into the Rhine. At the beginning of the 60s, she was presented as a LES PAUL in the "new design", especially since the typical LP flopped at the time, which was perhaps due to the relatively high weight of the original Paulas. Everyone knows that these guitars today earn astronomical prices. For example, a 57-liter Les Paul Custom can be found at an Ami dealer for a whopping 120000 USD !!
However, the recently deceased LES PAUL was not able to start with the radically altered design and was simply renamed "SOLID GUITAR" (= SG). Bands such as THE DOORS, BLACK SABBATH, AC / DC, and Stratmann Eric Clapton "hopped" the SG into the cult status.
I personally find the SG beside LP & Strat as one of the "noblest" electric guitars; On Gibson's homepage, however, SG's and Paulas are totally absurdly designed or dyed. The classic SG colors are mainly the deep cherryred and the yellowed white (classic white or antique ivory). The Vintage Original Specs (VOS) series is most strikingly the "artificially aged" (nickel) hardware. In combination with the "faded" finish & the green yellowed Kluson mechanics, the perfect vintage look results. The Bodyfinish, however, has no deliberate "quirks" as in Fender's RELIC series. The grain of the Mahagony is very beautiful.
Pickup pickup and circuitry are typically Gibson-Classic. 2x Volume, 2x Tone, 2 non-splitable Gibson Burstbuckers (Typ1 & 2). Like the JOAN JETT Signature, this guitar is created especially for rock music, but it offers more flexibility due to the circuitry and also feels good in the Blues & Jazz genre. The bass pickup does not have as much output as the BB3 in Gibson's JOAN JETT guitar.
Although the VOS-SG (logically) is missing a singlecoil circuit which is justified by the high price, but it is also for those who want to revive the sound of past years without being financially ruined. Originals from the 60s cost well and gladly quickly over 15000, - USD!

To the guitar itself I can only say that it is really a trampstrument, the optics leave every (Gibson) guitar fan in ecstasy.Perfekt processed, no disturbing collar edges and the 60er neckprofile contributes to the SG from that era Not for nothing as the guitar with the "fastest neck in the world" was designated. It is true that a noble part is to be nurtured. Hand sweat creates a "sticky" feel for nitrocellulose-lacquered guitars. It is best to order the corresponding medications!
My copy had however initially a massive tuning problem. Even after a moderate tremolo action she was completely "out of tune". Now I have times new strings on it what the situation significantly improved, but still appear to me because my FENDER STRATS less "desperate". The tremolo arm is relatively heavy.
The sticker on the back of the neck has the part as a CUSTOM SHOP guitar, the sturdy shape case also bears the logo "GIBSON CUSTOM".
Admittedly: the guitar has its price, but real gourmets will not miss the part anyway!
