Gibson Les Paul Studio EB

I'm not writing here to enter in the nonsense endless wars between trademarks. Internet is full of information, videos, details you can dig into. Also I have to say that I really like Les Pauls since I was a teenage until nowadays.

Everything came into a really good condition via Thomann, as always. I bought a lot of stuff here over the years and I never had a problem with, honestly.

Once said this, when I open the guitar the first place where my eyes were focus: a really long scratch, kind of sandpaper, not a deep one but a long one and enough to remove the paint and let the wood not protected. Over the years into a wet climate could be enough to get this wood roten, slowly.

This could be a mistake all of us could have in spite of this guitar company have their own quality control service they check the guitars before commercialize.

I put it back to the store.

I've been looking for the Custom Shop Les Paul which has been out of stock with reasonably long backorders in the UK (and perhaps Europe too) so I decided to give this studio guitar a chance in the meantime.

Visually the two guitars are very different, however technically the Pick-ups and Tuneomatic bridge and tailstop appears to be identical.

When I first received this guitar visually I couldn't see any defects or issues with the guitar. It was not tuned to standard, but that was easily rectified. I played a couple of tunes on it to test it and ended up covered in black dust so I had to wipe the strings and fretboard down with my microfibre cloth, though I doubt this is a guitar problem.

This Studio Gibson is surprisingly lightweight, the sound is great and is much better, clearer than the PRS Standard (with split-coils) that I own.

No regrets buying this!

Eins vorweg: Den direkten vergleich habe ich nur zu sehr wenigen off-the-shelf Les Paul Modellen. Den direkten Vergleich kann ich zur Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro ziehen, die allerdings in der Preisklasse 400-500€ liegt, und somit nicht ganz fair ist.

--- Einsatzgebiet ---
Die Gibson Les Paul Studio EB wurde bisher ausschließlich in Privatstudio/Proberaumsettings gespielt, und vor allem ersteres ist akustisch und elektronisch gut optimiert. Bezüglich Sound wird das gute Stück eigentlich ausschließlich im High-Gain/High-Distortion bereich gespielt. (In kombination mit einem Sentry Noisegate und einem Tech 21 Sensamp, welcher direkt in die PA/das interface läuft)

--- Pro/Cons ---

+ Sound:

Persönlich (und gefühlt) brilliert die Paula in dem eben beschriebenen Einsatzgebiet. Im Mixer wird sichtbar dass der Output mehr Volumen bietet als mein Vergleichsmodell. Auch in den Hochmitten ist Die LP Studio EB fantastisch. Der Sustain lässt sich objektiv als "ewig" bezeichnen. Jeder Anschlag ist eine Freude.

+ Gewicht:

Gerade in längeren Sessions wird das etwas geringere Gewicht dieser Paula deutlich. Zwar ist das Modell bauweisenbedingt immer noch auf der schwereren Seite, aber der direkte Vergleich macht es dann deutlich.

+ Aussehen:

Wer auf minimalistische Designs steht ist hier genau richtig. Ein Finish aus Schwarz, mit schwarz und schwarz, dazu noch etwas schwarz, und ein ganz kleines bisschen Metall. Die einzige "Verzierung" die man hier findet muss man auf dem Gitarrengurt unterbringen.

+/- Verarbeitung:

Eigentlich tadellos, alles wirkt so wie es sein soll. Mit Ausnahme des Treble/Rythm Switches. Dieser wackelt ein bisschen. Ließ sich allerdings Problemlos mit etwas Füllmaterial und erneutem einschrauben richten.

- Finish:

Das Schwarz in kombination mit dem Hochglanzfinish hat einen kleinen Nachteil. Es muss nicht viel Staub in der luft sein, und dennoch - man sieht jedes noch so kleine Körnchen. Zwingt einen zum regelmäßigen Saubermachen :)

Für den Preis ein absolutes Topklassemodell. Klar es gibt noch teurere, aber Preis/Leistung ist hier absolut in Waage. Von mir eine klare Empfehlung, wenn's ins Budget passt.

Bon, ça faisait maintenant plusieurs décades que j'en rêvais... J'en avais essayé plusieurs à des potes : rien que du plaisir ! J'ai fini par franchir le pas !
D'abord, la livraison, dans les temps et très soignée ; à l'ouverture de la boîte à bijou, la guitare : je la sors et fait rapidement le tour du proprio pour vérifier que tout est intact ! Rien à dire !
Je la branche sur l'ampli, monte les potards (pas trop fort, j'ai un voisin un peu sensible !) et là, on a du son Gibson ! Du son Les Paul ! C'est aussi pour ça que je l'ai achetée !
Micro manche OK ! Micro chevalet OK ! Position centrale OK ! tout ça sonne gras ! à souhait. Tout ce qui me manquait sur ma Telecaster !
En son clean, en overdrive, en disto, sur du flanger ou de la wha-wha, le son emplit l'espace !
Puis, après, on peut splitter avec un push pull pour chaque micro ! Sur le micro manche, l'effet est très chouette : on se rapproche d'un single coil mais plus fourni, moins criard (en mode funky, ça ressort super bien). Pour le micro chevalet, J'ai trouvé moins percutant l’intérêt du pull !
Le manche : aaah ! les manches de chez Gibson ! J'ai toujours trouvé leur sensation facile ! Le manche sur lequel les doigts courent et glissent sans obstacle et trouvent toujours la bonne case ! Beaucoup plus fluide qu'un manche de Telecaster ou même une Gibson Sonex180 Deluxe (j'en ai eu une à une époque...).
Un ou deux détails, la petite rondelle indiquant Rythm/Trebble n'est pas posée ! c'est à toi de le faire !
Et puis, et puis l'étui ! euh ! ils plaisante chez Gibson ! Un étui pas tout à fait souple mais pas un case ! ! ! (Obligation de faire l'acquisition d'un vrai case !
Un peu juste comme façon de faire, même si, je sais bien, les prix pour les Les Paul Studio sont tirés vers le bas !
Actuellement, j'attends la prochaine répét pour la tester en fonction réelle mais ça devrait le faire.
