Gibraltar Ultra Adjust Hi Hat Stand GI-9707ML-UA

Paul330, 15.05.2013
Cons:
Feet on mine don't come down far enough to make it particularly stable.
Pros:
Its' positional ability outweighs its instability and can be corrected with weights, sand bags or other ingenious solutions.

A god send for all my kits really. It comes into it's own and finds its place when used in a rack or gigging set-up where space is more than likely a significant issue. It performs equally well in a or recording/stage work scenario too; where tight spaces and a noise free mechanism are vital-mine is a liquid drive mechanism. It allowed far better positioning of Hi Hat cymbals in relation to my snare and ensured I was able to play in a way that felt more natural and faster than with my traditional stands, but you could use a cable hi-hat stand as well-its always subjective, and technique should be down to the player rather than dictated by the gear-but I still feel it influences my playing style.

Why I recommend it:

Worth the price, nice slick action- nice pedal feel (Though my product has feet that do not descend/unfold far enough to cope with even the slightest couple of millimetres of uneven floor). Less easy to handle straight out of a box, and may be slightly bulkier to pack down than regular stands but not enough to really put you off ( I think).
Really responsive I won't use anything else now, because my technique is improving due to placement options within my set-up-this is personal taste though but it may open up options for you too. I would recommend it happily enough, though if you need more floor space Thomann Millenium brand do a nice cable hi-hat- the choice is dictated by your needs.

very good but too much spring tension

27.03.2017
I would like to start and conclude this review stating that this product is absolutely fine.

the issue this product is supposed to solve is the following: do you play a DOUBLE PEDAL and you do not want your hi hat too far way? then this product is absolutely fine for you. it can also be suitable if you intend to play any kind of hi-hat with the foot but you want the cymbal far away from you.

The cymbal is a heavy-duty stand, very solid and stable.

There are only two major problems:

The main, and most important in my opinion, is the spring inside the cymbal stand. it is definitely too strong for me, no matter how loose you set the regulator. I am used to keeping the spring tension in my pedals very loose (both bass drum and hi hat) and I simply can't play with this stand. Also, the noise coming out of the stand due to the tighten spring inside is quite loud. If you are looking for a smooth and loose feeling from your hi-hat, look elsewhere.

The second issue is related to the length of the supporting rod. Unless you hold the hi hat extremely high (above your shoulder), you simply can?t use this stand as a normal hi-hat stand. What I am trying to say, is the following: even if you don?t have a double pedal, you need to position the stand a bit far away your left foot (as if you actually had a double pedal), because there is no way to regulate the length of the intermediate holding arm.

To sum up, I would recommend this stand to all the people who don?t mind a high spring tension and need to reduce the horizontal distance between the snare drum and the hi-hat (a typical problem that all the double pedal users need to deal with). Go for it, you will not be disappointed.
If you simply are not among these two categories, I suggest to look for something else.
