Excellent stand

MrGuyJP, 24.02.2018
I got this to use at home and on gigs and it seems ideal! It is surprisingly light and folds up nicely and has a carry case. It holds the base up at around a 75 degree angle and is very stable, you couldn't accidentally knock the bass off. I am very pleased with this purchase and it was much less expensive to buy from Thomann than any of the dealers in the UK. Highly recommended.

Two in comparison

Andreas306, 10.07.2017
Recently bought two double-bass stands from Thomann: the Stagg SV-DB and the Gewa McNutt Bass Cradle. The Hercules HC-DS-590B, which at first glance was also interesting, did not work, as I would have had to constantly adjust the sting because of my body size.

The Stagg makes a solid and stable impression, can be folded well with some Schraubenlös well. The lower support arms for the carcass can be adjusted in 3 positions (à 6 cm), whereby the lowest position offers about 30cm ground clearance for the sting. The support arm for the bass neck can be infinitely adjusted in height and the gripper can also be locked forwards.

The McNutt is astonishing: the Thomann package seems to be empty in weight, and after unpacking it is hard to believe that this lightweight and handy thing should hold the instrument safely. But I have to say that Mr. McNutt really came up with something! The construction of the 'bass cradle' uses to hold the instrument the place where you grab it by hand (apart from the neck) also by hand: The upper edge of the opposite handle (carcass indentation) is on the front support arm of the stand 'hooked' and the bass then rotated over this axis until the sting touches down. Its different positions allow the instrument to rest on the cradle with more or less lateral inclination - in my 3/4 bass with the sting retracted almost vertically, in my usual position clearly oblique. At the same time, the well-padded rear support arm always ensures a suitable backwards inclination. The point of contact seems to me to be particularly successful with basses with arched bottoms - I can not say what that looks like with straight floors. A small leaflet with setup hints would not have hurt, but the inventor has some short clips on his Youtube channel 'Dennis McNutt'.

In comparison, I would trust the Stagg the higher seismic safety, but the McNutt also stand on the stage for stable - and elephants have to look for either in the china shop or on the stage something. But the McNutt is much more handy, portable and prettier to look at than the comparatively staid Stagg.

Of course, what is said is only a first impression after 2 days. I'll spend a while with both of them - maybe I'll keep both of them.

A suggestion for the Thomann team: Unfortunately, none of the offered bass stands have a product image that shows 'in action' - ie with bass. That would have been a decision-making aid for me.
