Solid performer with a good sound, heavy punch, light weight and - regrettably - some compromises on finishing.
The GK CX 115 is a solid performer adding lots of low-end punch to my bass playing in an electric band setting. I use the GK MB 500 head to drive the cabinet. The couple easily defends its place in the low frequency range of a band using 1 or 2 guitars, 2 keyboards, 2 horns, a drum kit and up to 4 singers. The cabinet?s sound adopts well to different musical styles ranging from modern and vintage rock and hard rock, to blues, disco and pop tunes.
The CX 115 sound is characterized by a well-balanced blend of base frequency and harmonics. Actually surprisingly well-balanced in this price segment. The audio crossover circuitry does a good job in splitting the audio signal into separate frequency band ands routing them appropriately to the 15? woofer and the built-in HF horn.
The CX 115 is solidly built despite its light weight construction. Flip grip handles on both sides of the cabinet allow for easy handling.
The overall finishing is good enough but far from perfect.
Pros: ? sound, punch, light weight, solid construction Cons: ? finishing far from perfect
I've bought this cabinet on their early first run. Had to wait a few months until GK actually shipped them to Thomann. I´m amazed at how lightweight this cab is, not to mention the beautiful and rugged structure. The side handles seem reliable.
Unfortunately it handles 300W 8Ohms only, I wish it could handle 400W so I could use it as a half-rack with my GK700RB. But if you are able to pair it with another 8Ohms cab, it will work in a charm.
The unit has a HORN DEFEAT switch in case you have a very bright sounding setup and need to cut excessive highs. There is a downside to it, though: the little switch itself is a little fragile. I worry about breaking it if I'm not careful enough... If it weren´t for that, I´d say this cab is rock solid.
The sound is not too bright (after all it is a 15''), but has lots of punch and definition. Could handle small-to-mid gigs with ease. Big venues would need more power, probably with the help of the FOH system.
Overall, I'd gladly recommend it, specially from THOMANN, which never fails to amaze me with their incredible assistance.
