Big, strong, healthy, like a great Marshall. No time fixed!

Christopher Klimek, 02.11.2017
People, horny pedal!

Here at the Thomann-Feedbacks I spoke very verbally with praise for the BE-OD pedal (also Friedman).
Now I have to say: I find the Dirty Shirley Overdrive even better.

Main differences to the BE overdrive are:

Dirty Shirley has
- less at max. gain reserve
- less bass (but the right amount!)
- more & even adjustable centers.

For me, all 3 points are big PLUS.

This pedal is REALLY easy to maintain.

The controls of the complete 4-band EQ can be played at 12 o'clock !!

In the middle I can take back to "half past 10" or 11 o'clock, and the pedal still sounds strong and is audible in the mix. Rhythm like solo.

In the middle of 12-14 o'clock position bring strong low / middle centers, as one can use for eg Eddie Van Halen applications.
But everything sounds natural and amp-like. No dull telephone sound.

Scooped Mids at 9 o'clock also go (black album, 90ies).

Treble and Presence are playable in many different positions / combinations, from moderate to AC-DC or free sounds to Nirvana / 90s.

I mainly play on a Fender Blues DLX, 40W, 1x12 "combo and can really use Dirty Shirley's Treb / ??Pres pots from 11: 30h to 15h (!!!) :)

Bass from 10am to 14h useful for me, depending on location and band occupation! :)

Gain in zero position brings with Strat already easy Grit.
Sounds good - alive - usable for semi-clean applications.

Gain 9h-11h = AC DC Rhythm + Solo

Gain comes steadily while turning up, but remains until 13h position "dry, firm, crunchy". I like it!!

Ie hot rodded plexi, JMP Master Vol, JCM 800, JCM 900 ..... I hear everything in this pedal.

No slush, no excessive compression.

Rough, earthy British Zerre.

From 13: 30h comes a good ladle controllable punch to (even with amplifier to room volume).

Then single note riffs and soloing are really fun.

Dirty Shirley is very good with ext. blow on upstream booster pedals for more "smacking" on solo use.
(and above all, then just two sounds LIVE via foot ready.)

I almost exclusively play the tight position, as more typical for the Marshall Sound I'm used to from JMPs and JCM800s.

Great direct growling speech.

Rock !! Can I really recommend for Strat, Paula, SG .... fully.

Internal gain trim comes factory set to 10: 30h. Good setting.
Sounds but also turned up top.

For eg percussive HiGain speech at Intro Riff from Smells like teen Spirit: Gain outside at 11-13 o'clock. Gain trim inside 13-15h.

For punchy sounds in the classic rock range, simply leave internal trim at 10:30 h and drive gain outside at 12: 30h-14: 30.

If you still want to turn a small adjusting screw on the sound / response behavior, you can also try 9.6V, 10V ... instead of 9V power supply .... up to 18Volt !!!

(The pedal does not offer that internally.) You just have to "bring along" the appropriate voltage with a suitable power supply, ie a 12V power supply, or a power supply with adjustable voltage.)

No wishes left open !! :) :) :)

THANK YOU.
