Interesting product

OliverSean, 21.12.2014
I got into using rhythm stomp boxes quite recently and its really changed my unplugged gigs. When I saw this product on thomann and the corresponding video I just had to get it. It has its limitations and i am starting to get more comfortable with it now. I do however use mainly the Cajon sound more than the full beats but the full beats do have a certain hands on appeal. I am hoping to incorporate this more into my set. I wish it was a little sturdier as I get worried I might break it during travel. This product is true Innovation for sure :) Oliver Sean [LINK]

Good idea, but unfortunately untrained and too expensive.

Wernie, 31.08.2014
Sound and technical, the device corresponds exactly to the firmware of the other amplifiers of Finhol. In addition, a few rhythm patterns with autoplay function have been installed and demand for this "innovation" the double price. I would still like this if the implementation would be perfect, but unfortunately this is not the case.

The device has two operating modes:
1. Enter the Tap tempo, the drum will run constantly at this tempo
2. Permanent tap control during the game ("human control")

Operating mode 1 is quite useful, but not new. It can be found in a similar form with many other devices, such as various Looper from Boss with significantly more variants in rhythm, more functions and lower price.

Operating mode 2 has not been available with other devices. The drums are constantly in sync with the player's tapping and makes all tempos fluctuations with time, without delay. As a result, the shuffle rhythm makes it very difficult to keep the tempo exactly. Already minor inaccuracies in tapping lead to "towing" like a bad drummer. This can not be blamed on the player, because a real drummer does not depend on the exact time interval between two beats, but on the sensed tempo average.

The solution here would be to program the processor so that the tempo follows the average over several taps. This compensates for the inevitable fluctuations in tempo. The principle is in the electronics an old hat and known as PLL (phase locked loop). The drums would then continue 1 or 2 bars when you stop groping and slow down.

Even better would be a USB port and a program that allows you to load your own rhythms or samples when the built-in boring. It is also a pity that the volume ratio of the individual instruments can not be influenced. So there is still much potential for further development.

Until then, I continue to take my looper and play back previously played patterns, which is cheaper and sounds better ...
