40 years of the Squier Precision Bass!

Squier 40th Anniversary Precision Bass

2022 marks Squier's 40th anniversary, and to celebrate, the brand has launched a series of limited-edition instruments - which of course include the legendary Precision Bass. The Squier 40th Anniversary P-Bass, shown here in its striking Satin Dakota Red finish, is loaded with a Fender-designed AlNiCo split coil pickup and features robust aged chrome hardware with a matt finish that optimally enhances the instrument's authentic vintage looks. This anniversary model from Squier combines a nyatoh body in the classic slimline Precision Bass shape with a one-piece maple neck featuring 20 "narrow tall" frets, all of which provides both a well-balanced look and a comfortable playing feel.

Precision meets power

The Precision Bass has always enjoyed a reputation as an immensely flexible instrument that will handle everything from punchy and powerful basslines through to finely-nuanced solo passages. The Squier 40th Anniversary P-Bass is no exception, and its solid-wood construction combined with the Fender-designed pickup mean that players can expect the same sought-after tone that can be heard on countless legendary recordings. The bolt-on neck features a slim-taper C profile and a smooth satin finish to ensure a high level of playing comfort over the entire fingerboard, whose upper registers are also easily accessible thanks to the bass's classic double cutaway. Squier has also not cut any corners in terms of hardware here, and the Squier 40th Anniversary P-Bass accordingly comes complete with a sturdy bridge and precise vintage-style machine heads which promise many years of reliable service.

Limited edition on a budget

There can be no doubt that the Squier 40th Anniversary P-Bass is a genuine Precision Bass through and through, which despite its limited production run gives players both the immense versatility and the authentic vintage looks with which the design is synonymous - at a price that is affordable for discerning beginners as well as for more long-term Precision Bass afficionados. So whether they are looking for a collectible bass or better still a reliable workhorse for the rehearsal room, stage, and studio - in the latter of which its sonic flexibility and comfortable playing feel will truly come into its own - bass players can be sure that the Squier 40th Anniversary P-Bass is a sound investment.

About Squier

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Incidentally, Squier has existed as a company since the 19th century. It supplied Fender with strings right from the start, before being acquired by the company in 1965. Fender has been producing its iconic guitar and bass models at beginner-friendly prices under the Squier brand since 1982.

From Jazz to Rock and from Soul to Funk

The number of musical styles in which the Precision Bass has established its legacy is ample testament to the versatility of the design. The Squier 40th Anniversary P-Bass represents a worthy continuation of this legacy and, with its AlNiCo split-coil pickup, will capably handle everything from Funk to Rock and Soul to Blues. And quite apart from its authentic and highly usable sound, this anniversary bass from Squier will also provide a feast for the eyes thanks to its striking Satin Dakota Red finish and gold-anodised aliminium pickguard, a combination that will make it an eyecatcher everywhere from the living room to the concert stage.

Great take on a "Vintage" P Bass
Moonlet 16.01.2023
I'd like to start with the CONS:
- The quality control Squier does on their recent basses and guitars still has quite a room for improvement even on their top series as Classic Vibe or this anniversary one.
- The nut on the bass I received had a huge chip next to the lower E slot. Luckily it doesn't have any impact on the sound but it's still a bummer to me.
- The machine heads Squier puts on their top series get worse and worse. IMHO the discontinued Vintage Modified series had better hardware.
- There were a few scratches on the pickguard. I'm not sure if those originated from someone testing that bass before or just some blemishes caused during the production.
- It was already mentioned in another review that the heads of the pickguard screws are not flush with the surface and are slightly tilted, meaning those were not properly lined up with the holes before screwing in.

Now about the PROS:
- That satin finish and the color look amazing in person. It does feel good too!
- The playability of the neck is great, I really like the profile, add on top the satin finish.
- The tinted finish they gave to the neck looks really beautiful in combination with Dakota Red.
- Aged hardware has some attractiveness to it.
- Frets were quite well polished and didn't have any sharp edges.
- The sound that pickup produces is surprisingly good! It's punchy, it's clear and I believe it will stand out in the mix really well.

In general, it's a great instrument with some unique specs making it a desirable piece in your collection. Squier did really step up in the game and offers very attractive instruments these days. I would expect just a tad more on the QC side at least for their top series.

Klasse Bass
Schmidti83 13.01.2023

Fazit: Preis-Leistung tip top.

Meiner Meinung nach zum Fender Preci US nicht viele Abstriche

Viel besser geht´s nicht!
QB68 17.12.2022
Ohne ausschweifendes Gelaber:

Selten so viel Spaß beim Bass spielen gehabt.

Meer Precision dan gedacht
Dottore S. 15.02.2023
