Metal Axe That Is Surprisingly Versatile

David C. 166, 22.05.2013
I bought this guitar as a step up from an old cheap jackson that I had learned to play on. I based my decision to buy partly on the Total Guitar review that is attached to the product page. It only came second out of four in the review but that was good enough for me as the product that came first, the Ibanez ARZ700, did not have fret markers / inlays. This wouldn't bother some but I do actually look at the inlays as I play.

This guitar screams quality and I tried this in a local shop alongside the LTD EC -1000 and I couldn't justify the price difference although I now also want to buy the EC- 1000 for the ebony fretboard. The build quality is the same I feel.

Playability, the neck is slim but not so slim it gives you cramp in your hands. It's just about perfect and the gloss neck doesn't get sticky at all when playing. Build quality, top quality fit and finish all around with only a bit of minor glue smear on the bottom neck join. The paint, fretboard, binding and hardware are all flawless quality. The EMG pickups... are exactly how you would expect, roaring with bite at the bridge and sounding like angels singings when playing lead.

9.9 / 10 for this guitar it is just like a les paul custom but lighter weight and with emg's. Plus I think LTD is cooler that other popular manufacturers.

Hammer guitar

22.02.2013
This wonderful guitar I play now for over 2 years and I am still as enthusiastic about it as on the first day.

Sound and features:

The two active humbuckers of EMG (which are also installed in guitars to several thousand euros) push what the stuff holds! Anyone who moves more musically in the heavier fields will have a great joy with this sound.
The 3 way toggle switch contributes (of course) MASSIV to the sound. Where the sound in the distorted range of both activated humbuckers is still a bit discreet, he is just brachial, nasty and snappy when standing on the bridge humbucker. A more aggressive sound has hardly come anywhere else.
I like to use the pickup at the neck for throaty cleansounds, because the EC-401 shows what it can do in the clean area as well. From creamy blues to the crunchy lead track, everything is possible here as well.
Both humbuckers can be adjusted to the volume controls and the tone control is also working flawlessly, either for a dull cozy tone or for a slightly scratchy, biting sound.
The slightly bass-heavy sound can be quite well dampened here.

Playability:

Since the fretboard distance to the fretboard is quite small in this model, the guitar is simply super and pleasant to play. I mainly play lead guitar with pieces of Metallica, Rising Force etc. and can not see any weaknesses here. Fast runs, trills, everything can be played perfectly (with the necessary exercise course: D).
However, it should be clear to everyone that he is buying an LP model and the upper frets from about 17 upwards can not be as good as with a Stratocaster or Explorer etc.

Design:

You can not say it differently, this Les Paul replica is simply an eye-catcher badly. Especially the Fretboard inlays have done it to me here.

Processing:

Here, basically, only small things can be criticized. The edges of the neck are partly minimally uneven but otherwise I could not find any flaws. The guitar is very solid built, nothing wobbles or works cheaply and she has already surpassed numerous transcriptions (in a bag). Small scratches in the varnish through the pleck or other can be avoided over time, but only fall off if you look at the guitar closely.

My conclusion:

As I said in the headline, just a hammer part! The price-performance ratio is right, the guitar is all in all perfect, beautiful and especially a METAL BOARD!

Have fun with this Ltd =)

Edit: All indicated on the sound are without guarantee, as each setup sounds different and me described details can only occur with me so. The rough direction should of course be given at all.
