An AMAZING guitar, but carefully inspect it after it arrives!
Romco, 10.06.2019
Summary:
Carefully inspect your guitar after it arrives! The first specimen I got was bad and I had to have it replaced.
Build quality: OK. The replacement is quite good though (electronics are not the best, but okay, and it needed a little setting up).
Sound: Amazing
Playability: Amazing
Looks: ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS
Overall: Amazing

Longer version:
Context: I bought this as my second electric guitar (the first one was my first guitar ever, an old Epi SG G-310). I only do bedroom practice right now. I mostly wanted a guitar that is better than what I had before, a little more versatile and looks good too. Something that I could practice with and also take it to a garage jam if an opportunity arrives. I'm a big Oasis/Noel Gallagher fan, by the way.
The amp I play with is the BOSS Katana 50W and the only pedal I use is a Jamman Solo Looper pedal.

Quality: I'll start by saying that I had to return the first piece I got because of an irreparable manufacturing flaw - it had a twisted neck which caused fret buzz. I took the first piece to a local shop and I was told that I should definitely return it, that it cannot be fixed - so I did, and the same verdict was given by Thomann, so they shipped me a new one once they restocked (no problems with the communication btw, good customer service :) ) - so all in all, I got my replacement about 3 weeks after shipping the original return. The replacement is close to flawless though - only one of the knobs is a little 'off axis', but this is very much a minor detail. I adjusted the action and then the intonation, but it was very close to great even out of the box. The nut seems a little too high, but nothing terrible - I have not replaced it yet (probably will at some point). The knobs, switch and overall the electronics inside will probably get replaced eventually as well, but for now, they are alright. These are the reasons why I'm giving it 3 stars in the quality column.

Looks: This guitar is absolutely gorgeous. I've had it for over a year, and I still sometimes just pick it up and admire how amazing it looks (then, of course, I play some because it's impossible to just put it down).

Playability: The guitar plays great. I had my doubts initially, as this is the first semi-hollow body I got (I definitely encourage you to try one at a local shop if you've never played one before you order it online), but after a couple of days, I LOVE it. The neck feels good, the size feels right (I'm quite used to a jumbo acoustic guitar, so I actually prefer that semi-hollows are bulkier and heavier than standard solid-bodies). Action is fine (I lowered it after it arrived). Plays well on higher frets (get new & quality strings if you feel otherwise, a set of fresh Elixirs always makes the guitar feel so much better).

Sound: Amazing, and very versatile as well. The neck pickup sounds very crisp, great. The bridge is very 'heavy' (in a good way). The middle position sounds amazing, on high gain you get a great 'wall of sound' while maintaining clarity even if you strum all 6 strings on an open chord. When playing clean, the pickups also sound great (though I rarely play 100% clean).

Overall: Definitely recommended.

I wanted to give it 5 stars
24.02.2017
I purchased this guitar as I wanted a Gibson 335 but can't justify the price tag for my standard of playing, so I went with this as the next best thing (after all, Epiphone designed the 335, right??) - I wanted something that would sound good for blues, but sound different to my other guitars, and I don't think I made a bad choice. Straight out of the box, the guitar has an awesome sound with a near perfect action, and the ability to flip to single coil is a really handy way to make it more versatile for many kinds of music; combine with the guitar's beautiful looks its' a win win.

Unfortunately, I've found out first hand just how true the gossip about Epiphone finishing is and the fret finishing has left a couple of the frets feeling like sandpaper and subsequently it's going through strings at a rate of knots - Thomann are sorting this out for me, but shipping an otherwise perfect guitar back to Germany to be replaced with another guitar which may be worse is the least ideal of all possible solutions.

I wholeheartedly recommend this guitar, but thoroughly inspect your specimen when it arrives.
