Great looking guitar, and great sounding too. Of course that's subjective opinion. Well, soundwise, this guitar even surpassed my expectations. Even without any effects, processors and amplifiers, just connected into audio interface, already sounds the way I like guitars to sound: rough, raw, metallic, heavy, rich in high and low frequencies, loud, crude, uncouth and intensive. With distortion, obviously, also sounds intensive. Good for many genres which value crudeness in sound. (Great for punk rock, obviously).

My SG arrived already set up sufficiently well, didn't need any adjustments. Have been playing every day for more than a month now. Stays in tune well enough, can't complain.

Okay, all being said, can't give it a highest quality rating. My particular 400 Pro gots one annoying problem. And it's not neck-diving (which is more like a well-known "feature" with SG-type guitars). The annoying problem is that the bridge pickup has a ground noise hum (which gets much quieter when the hands touch the strings). When amplified, also can hear some hi-frequency static noise (much like on vinyl records). Not much of an obstacle for practicing and random jamming, but for recording it's unacceptable.
At the same time the neck pickup is totally ok, without any ground noise. So, it's probably something wrong in wiring (not sending my SG back, already fell in love with it, someday will have to fix it all by myself).

Other than that the tone and volume knobs function just like they are supposed to, but I have no use for them, I just keep them all turned to the maximum (anyways methinks hi-pass filter would be more useful than lo-pass on a guitar). Also the coil split is an interesting feature. Supposedly this should allow you to play with a "thinner" sound. Well I purchased SG because I want a "thicker" sound, but yes, with coil split it sounds more quiet for sure and slightly more "accoustic".

Already mentioned looks. This guitar in real life actually looks much better than on pictures.

Updated model is quite good
Atanas T, 14.12.2018
So I recently bought this stunning looking guitar while it was marketed with the old no binding, rosewood fingerboard, and maple venire on both the front and the back of the guitar (gave it a kinda streaky look). And I was quote surprised to find mine had binding on it so a quick Google search later revealed that Epi have simply updated the g-400 pro.

However I am not at all disappointed with the update, the binding is done really well, looks amazing, and will protect your fretboard from fret sprout, so it's better than the old one in this regard.

As to the Pau Ferro fingerboard, its decent, I have to note that on my SG it looks slightly darker, and doesn't have that orange-ish tint that the photos of it may lead you to believe. Pau Ferro feels nice, it's quite a dense hardwood and it makes for perfect substitution of rosewood.

The guitar sounds amazingly, the bridge pickup is bright, has a nice full sound and when you put some overdrive on, it let's out such a nice rock tone. Seriously a friend of mine has a Epi LP custom pro that doesnt sound as good, with the overdrive on. The neck pickup is middle of the pack sounds good for some lead but it kinda lacks a tad bit more sharpness, however when you coil tap the neck and select the middle position you can get a really good strategy sound, even some strat 'quack' out of it with the right settings. Really versatile sound.

The neck feel and playability is good, however I can see people having mixed feeling about it: the neck is thin, however it's slightly wider than per say the Angus Young SG (we are talking about a 3mm difference here) which combined with the slim taper D neck profile(which on it's own it's quite comfortable) makes it feel kinda wierd, it has some slightly more spacing between the strings which makes playing chords and lead easier, however the wider mech and the D shape makes it slightly awkward to play with your thumb over the fretboard, so rhythm playing might be just right or kinda weird depending if you play with your thumb over or not. Lead however is just perfect, neck is thin and really nice to pinch, more string spacing helps with lead playing for me at least. The only way it could improve is if the neck was satin finished.

Pros:
- the guitar sounds amazing, the bridge pickup is bright, and has a really full, pleasant sound.
- the finish is perfect, no imperfections and you can even make out some nice patterns of the gorgeous mahogany underneath.
-Playability is quite good too. Nice reach to the upper frets and a nice slim neck.
-Electronics are genuine, pots feel smooth and the switch is clicky.

Cons:
-neck can be weird for some people
-has slight neck dive, more of a neck drift(typical SG problem)
- the nut on the jack slot has a tendency to screw itself out.

I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a new rock 'n roll axe, it's nice build quality and great sound. The only thing stopping me from giving it full on recommendations is the neck, you really gotta feel it to know if you'd like it, I find it nice and comfy however. Great axe!

First Electric
Simon C, 25.10.2017
I've dabbled with acoustics over the years but finally went for it. Always wanted an SG since I was a kid, but still couldn't justify a Gibson. Having seen a lot of reviews suggesting that nowadays the Epiphone quality was up there with the original (same company), I went for it. Thomann provided a great service availability/price/shipping etc.

The guitar is beautiful, the lacquer finish is fabulous, take it out into the sunlight and it glows and lets the wood grain show through. Chrome-wear all looks great and appears to be of a decent quality. As a novice I think the guitar plays really nicely. It seems well set up with a good low action - I tried taking it lower out of curiosity, didn't work, they got it right in the factory. All frets play well. I chose the Pro because I liked the idea of the "coil tapping", I was a little concerned about the reputation of richer sounding humbuckers. I prefer to finger pick and like the brighter Strat sound, Knopfler/Gilmore etc, I know but I wanted an SG! The coil tapping creates loads of options and lets me tick that box.

To sum up, very happy with the finish/ playability/sound and a great price. I marked down quality slightly because I find some of the black plastic trim and screws a little "cheap" - but then I've never had a close look at a Gibson.

Only problem now is playing it without getting fingerprints all over the glorious cherry lacquer ! And well done Thomann, thanks.

Epiphone bargain buy
Tony2427, 05.06.2015
As I have never owned an SG before it was just not the type of guitar for my style, I play mainly Blues so my Les Pauls (I own 3) and my Strat and Tele were ideal for the job. Over the last couple of years I been getting into AC/DC, I just love angus' riffs and solos, but I found it really difficult to get it right wit a Les Paul so not wanting to invest £600 or so,I saw this at around £210 so I placed an order on Monday and with thomann tracking I could follow it from leaving Thomann until it got delivered yesterday (Thursday) which was great, after signing the receipt I opened the parcel which was really well packed and behold this beautiful cherry guitar shined at me. The guitar was well out of tune so I tuned it up then checked the intonation which was perfect, the neck was unbelievably straight and true the frets were the same absolutely level. I plugged it into my Line6 spiderII and set it to crunch, which is what I use for the blues and the thing just oozed out that fantastic Angus sound, which was exactly what I was looking for the coil tap comes in great for the blues not a great loss of volume and was very happy. If you have never had an SG before buy this you will not be disappointed, and hats off to Thomann for a great service.

Excellent guitar for the price I paid
Dforce10, 24.05.2018
Great guitar and features foe the price only issues I've had with it is some times there's a buzz from the A string tuning peg and the whole for the bridge isn't far enough back to intonate the G string properly at the correct string height. Otherwise I really love this guitar. Sound resonates really well through the body. The price has gone up a lot since I bought mine in back in March 2017. I got the bundle (guitar & case) for ¤379, now the guitar on its own costs almost as much ¤369. So I was lucky that I bought it when I did. I would give this guitar 4 1/2 stars total but the rating system will only let you rate either 4 or 5 stars

Incredible value
Lars7388, 06.05.2015
I am so happy with my purchase, after doing a lot of research I found this G400 Pro to be a great beginner-intermediate guitar and Thomann had a killer price as usual.

This guitar screams quality and and you get such a huge selection in the tones it can produce. If you like the les paul design you will not regret buying a G400 pro!

Good, solid intermediate guitar.
07.04.2015
I decided to start playing the guitar approximately one year before I purchased this Epiphone SG. My first guitar was a dreadful thing that cost me very little money. Once I knew I was serious about learning to play, I decided to upgrade. My budget was tight, so after some careful research online I decided to go for the Epiphone SG.
All I can say is that I'm very glad I did.
It plays like a dream, and although I still consider myself to be a beginner, this SG feels like a high quality instrument. There's no fret buzz, the action is perfect, and the whole guitar just feels very well made.

In my opinion, the Epiphone SG is ideally suited to people who are looking to migrate from their first guitar to a more serious instrument, but who also don't have a huge amount of money to spend.

Quality plus Value. Another Epiphone triumph.
Alan403, 25.09.2013
The SG 400 PRO, with the push-pull coil tap is a little bit special. However, although I know that price is not everything, the fact that Thomann, supply at a price greatly lower than large UK competitors, is where it overcomes its rivals.
I buy guitars for two reasons - 1, For my own use. 2. As stock for my small business. This has proved very popular with my customers who have heaped praise upon it.
As I said, quality, value= triumph.

This guitar is all worth it.
DaviX, 26.03.2019
The first time I've put my hand on this guitar i felt that it was totally an upgrade in quality in comparison with my old strat.
I enjoyed that you can get a lot of tones with the humbucker pickups and the push/pull knobs.
Conclusion: If you're on a budget and you want quality for cheap, buy it without doubt.

Excellent guitar
Cepillo, 04.05.2019
Would I recommend buying this guitar? Yes. Thomann provided a great service availability/price/shipping etc.

I bought a cherry G-400. It is stunning in appearence. It sounds amazing, with good sustain and dark tone thanks to the mahogany body, the single-piece set neck, and the AlNiCo classic Pro humbuckers. Right what I was looking for.

A very versatile guitar, it is wonderful the variety of tones you can get by swapping mics, and using pull-push controls which transforms the humbuckers in single-coil pickups. It's fire!!!

After 3 hours using it doesn't keep tunning very well, I think it is because the strings are new and needs get used to the tension. The frets are pretty well leveled, but poorly polished as they look "scratchy", this doesn't affect playing at all though. The strings are somewhat elevated but nothing that can not be solved with minimal adjustments.

But overall satisfied with the product and the Thomann service. Thanks!

Epiphone SG G-400 PRO CH
05.05.2016
Guitar is very well made for it's price class.
Nicely lacquered without any flaw and the wood grain underneath is also very nice !
The only thing was the setup, I needed to adjust the truss-rod and the intonation, which was not a problem for me after +50 years guitar playing as a semi-pro.
Thanks for the quick delivery !

Great guitar for a home studio
14.06.2016
I use this guitar for a home studio, and with the addition of coil taping it provides a versatile tool when producing music in more then one genre. So far the only cons is the quality of the electronics and the controls/nobs on the guitar. Even though i don't gig or carry it around, after a year there seems to be some effect on them, and some produce noise when used or behave not as desired.

Great guitar but slight problem.
Kenan R., 20.02.2014
I recently purchased this guitar and it has sounded fantastic, it sounded great on the amplifiers and i loved the push-pull feature. The p90 pickups were great but i have a slight or rather big problem. When I play the low E string (open), the machine heads and the head buzz. Can you replace them (the machine heads) with new wilkinson deluxe machine heads (like the original on the guitar)?

I was disappointed by this.
yours sincerely, Kenan.
