Bought this guitar a couple of years ago as I was in need of a back-up guitar. Since I'm both a touring and recording musician, reliability is very important to me and according to specifications it seemed to deliver. After spending some time on various forums and checking YouTube videos, I decided to order one and see for myself. I always wanted a Les Paul style guitar anyway, so this seemed as a good time to fulfill that particular wish.
My first impressions were very positive, the guitar arrived in tune, the factory set-up was actually very good, much to my surprise, as some of the more expensive guitars I bought through the years had terrible factory settings.
Upon further inspection all seemed well, the finish was great, the black/white binding was perfectly installed, no glue marks or visible spliced parts which usually occur on sharp curves on cheaper guitars. The guitar resonated very well unplugged and the tuners held pretty well, apart from the usual G string problems (but that's a fairly well known problem with LP style guitars).
Sadly, my enthusiasm dropped rapidly a few days latter; Pickups were advertised as Gibson, but were very noisy and had a lot of feedback, which turned out to be a bad "wax" job. I fixed the problem quite easily as I do have some experience in potting pick-ups, but for a beginner or someone who is not familiar with more advanced guitar maintenance this could be an extra expense.
After that was fixed i started noticing that the gold plating on the hardware was beginning to come off, and soon enough the bridge, the tailpiece, the pickups and the tuners were exposed, with just an occasional golden flake still holding here and there. Once the metal was exposed it started to oxidize and there were green spots everywhere on the hardware which required quite a lot of regular cleaning.
Despite all that, the guitar itself played pretty well, and once the pick-ups were properly potted, it sounded really good. There was a nice hefty weight to it, the neck felt great and it held up really nicely on the couple of shows I used it at.
Ironically, this would have been a great guitar if the quality of the hardware was just a bit better. With a couple of upgrades this would have been a great guitar, but I did not want to bother with it and sold it to someone who was comfortable putting the necessary time and money into it.
For about the same price I ended up buying a Faber and never looked back. Not a totally bad guitar, but you can get a lot of better alternatives for about the same price.

A beautifully-crafted instrument.

Having had a couple of cheaper copies, I thought I'd splash out on something special. Wow, I'm so glad I did.
Everything about this guitar is luxurious; the finish is perfect, the tuners and bridge are fantastic quality, the fretboard feels really smooth to play, and the sound - oh the sound!
Even unplugged it seems to be more resonant than any of my other electric guitars, and plugged in, it just sings! The neck pick-up has bags of warmth and a great response in the mid range, and the bridge pick-up sounds nice and clear on the higher notes, with much more aggressive sounds available at the drop of a hat!
There is a coil-tap option on both pick-ups (on pull-pots), which gives a much lighter, more transparent sound, and on the combination setting gives it an interesting, hollow quality. Also there is a phase switch (they thought of everything!), giving you an extra option if you want something a little different!
The first one of these guitars I ordered arrived damaged, and I have nothing but praise for the way Thomann handled it; they sent me a replacement with no fuss at all - fantastic service.
