Fantastic ambitious price - performance ratio - Made in Germany

Julian869, 28.11.2010
I was looking for a small amp that can produce end stage at a moderate volume. I've been with Thomann: Orange Tiny Terror, Vox Nighttrain, Egnator Rebel 20 and must say: No Amp works for this purpose as good as the Engl! What definitv is the standard (!!!) built-in power soak!

For such a small amp is the equipment lush, after all two channels and an Einleifweg. Especially Vox and Orange were there very poorly in comparison. The sound control works very effectively, you can turn neatly, besides, there are still NEN very well functioning mid-boost for eg solo.

The clean channel sounds tendenziell rather warm, makes itself with strats very well and is never annoying. For humbuckers, a bright-switch would be nice, but a little more trebel and everything is in butter.

Zerr sounds can be re-smoothed on three because of over-control of the preamp by "overblowing" the input, in the lead area by Engl-Typical distortion or by the transient end stage.
All three distortions are highly cultivated and at the highest level. The Cleankanal ran a beautiful crunch and never starts scratching. Some one may like snappy-retro sounds, but I have eg the Tiny-terror ehr annoyed. As I said, the English goes very cultivated to the work.
If you enter input moder moderate (Strat, 9 o'clock) and tear the master wide, one can experience end stage in Reinkultur. The Gigmaster does not start to crumble or break in, great! Other smallpamps already start to destroy the TOn. SelbsMaster and input on full strokes still sound really good, a great classic rock sound. Only booting should not be more, then can easily start the mash. But yes there is the lead channel.

It is already much more modern and aggressive. Slightly slimmer and tighter with very large gain reserves. From light crunch to metal board everything goes. Have my LP on drop D, bass pure, yes: The Engl can be really angry. The very effective center control also allows scooped-sounds.

But now to the thing with the volume, because end stage without noise is unfortunately not.

One thing in advance: The Gigmaster can get loudly loud! However, the standard PowerSoak allows a significant reduction in the volume. It works excellently, I can not say that the tone would suffer. Unlike the nighttrain or tiny-terror, nothing is changed on the tube circuitry (triode or "half" mode). BUT: Even in "1-Watt" mode, the amplifier is still too loud for the living room in the final stage operation (master at 3 o'clock). You will then have to pull with the preamp and the master no more than 12 o'clock turn up. But the precursory funds are also good. You can see how effective the brake is when you turn off the Soak at full end stage in 1-Wat mode: A hefitger volume jump.

The DI sound may be fine for cleane signals, but I would rather but rather the box with a Mic decrease. As an emergency solution or additional signal, however, the frequency-cascaded output is always good.

CONCLUSION: No other smallest amp sets the theme of the end stage at controllable volume so consistently and efficiently. The sounds are Engl-Typically at the highest level, the equipment for the money extensively, the AMp is extremely versatile. Also great processed and in typical Engl look, only in mini.

One of my best achievements!

Engl E315

Have the ENGL Gigmaster now for about half a year and play almost every day on it.

Clean channel:
Clean it creates a wonderful sound, there I play it on humbuckers. I have rarely heard such a warm and full sound, is really fun (:
You can even turn the Imput Gain knob to 0 (yes, there is still something out), and with the power amplifiers Zerre a slightly crooked sound. With powerful pickups you can then create a rocky sound a la AD / DC in the clean channel with end stage (of course, the gain control turned up again)! So you can try a lot of things here, and interesting things come out.

Lead channel:
It is often asked how much distortion he can offer. So, for the tougher gait, it is DEFINITIVE too little. There is simply no gain that can not be denied. But you can do it like me and nen nen Tubescreamer before (have the TS7 of Ibanez) or something else. The Tubescreamer still blows some energy into the amp and so can compensate the lack of distortion. I am satisfied, now I have my dream (:

The amp is very spartan equipped with the sound. No effects. For people like myself, who are on purist sound (or have pedals for it, which one can cut in the way) is however no disadvantage.

The volume is really considerable. In the lead channel I always play in the 1-Watt mode with me in the room. Lauter simply does not go! For lead and mastervolume at ca 12 o'clock, I get the power amp tweaked, which the sound again refined! But this is already extremely loud for my small room.

I bought the appropriate ENGL box and play it with my Jackson DKMG. Am more than satisfied with this amp! I've been looking for an amp in the low watt range and just found nothing better than this one. Clear purchase recommendation!
