Electro Harmonix Screaming Bird

Effects pedalEH has been around forever and one of the first effects for the guitar was the Treble Booster, with the heroes like Eric Clapton (on the Bluesbreakers Beano album with John Mayall), Rory Gallagher, Toni Iommi and Brian May roaring their tube amps .

So on one hand a Treble Boost makes noises and pushes the tubes more into the saturation, on the other hand it also forms the sound, in this case it's wanted. More enforcement and gain are the consequences. A nice side effect: Turning back the volume control on the guitar, the sound is first of all wonderfully clean and brilliant - very good to hear with Brian May on live recordings.

A tip for friends of single-channel amps and for those who want to give their sound more bite.

At least it's cheap...

DirtyHarry, 11.01.2014
Thought it'd be cool with a treble booster, but I guess guys like Brian May and such legends use more high end stuff. It does make the sound trebly and boosted, but it kinda sounds like my amp is getting raped. It also cuts the bass which makes the heavier strings sound very thin and quite sharp.

It's pretty well made with solid metal casing. The switch is quite loud though. Easy to use with the single control knob.

Wouldn't really recommend it unless you're a fan of really trebly and sharp sounds. Might be useful for some, but not for me.

Old Radio Gaga ...

Halloween Jack, 25.09.2011
The Screaming Bird is a disconcerting "treble booster" that must be bought knowingly.
It reduces the bandwidth in highs (guaranteed "Old radio" effect) and drastically lowers the bass and low-midrange. So, in fact, the sound seems thin, narrow (imagine that you cut the bass and midrange of your amp and you play with the treble knob ...) and the musician wonders what he'll be able to to make this inconsistent groan.
However, the sound obtained has a beautiful personality and as a "vibration" clean that I find, personally, very endearing.
And we guess that it can become very interesting by rethinking it within a mix. Imagine bass-drums-voice-1st rhythm guitarist with a "classical" equa then 2nd arpeggio guitarist with the Screaming Bird ... The effect takes all its meaning!
As with any purchase at Electro-Harmonix, think about experimenting and interacting with the rest of the audio chain and you have the potential to find THE unique sound and ... new!
