Mercenary Drawmer 1969 - Vacuum Tube Compressor Pre Amp
I have been using this preamp / compressor for a year now and I can only say good things about it! I use it in two different ways:
1) Line Input (I do not use the mic preamp quite often, so no judgment on these! Apparently, thanks to op-amps "Burr-Brown", the sound is silky, clear and "punchy". ): I track my projects track by track from my sampler to my converters, to compress and amp-up the signal to the plug.
2) Hi-Z Input: tracking my bass and guitar; This "entrance-to" in facade (one of the features that pushed me towards the 1969) is very practical. It uses a pre-amp tube, two EQs, a "brightness" switch, all passing through the comp channel and the output stage ... Very good sound, hot and clean to hyper saturated and dirty, everything is possible!
The 1969 is solidly built, rather light but releases a sacred heat after a few hours! In addition to conventional features like the invert phase on both channels, there is also a lowcut with 2 fixed frequencies (50 and 100 Hz), a BIG function for the sidechain, and two VU meters, which show either the output level or The gain reduction (tipp: in stereo mode, one can use a VU for the GR and the other for the output! Practical to have a good control of the levels).
Only downside: the output gain is NOT stereo link ... With a signal generator and a peak meter, we still manage to calibrate the outputs WITHOUT ANY problem!
