Solid Device

Asado, 13.09.2014
It sounds amazing, it looks amazing and feels solid. I will cover most of the key points and things you might look for in a Multi-FX processor in this review.

1.Build Quality, Feel and Physical Input
It features an all-metal chassis; metal foot switches; a screen capable of displaying different font sizes, illustrations of different effects and amps; a comfortable metal expression pedal and 4 knobs.
The foot switches are solid and elegant looking, but not without their own problems. They require a bit more force than the plastic switches found on older Digitech models, making it a bit difficult using them while barefoot (as is often the case when practicing in the bedroom). It must also be said that in order to trigger some features like the tuner and bypass, you have to press two foot switches at the same time and sometimes the device registers the commands of the individual f.s. instead of their combined function.

Another foot controlled feature is the expression pedal, which allows you to control volume, trigger effects, whammy and many more features that are specified on the website. I found it generally comfy and the metal studs sticking out help to get a grip on the pedal with the foot. The only problem I found with it was the stiffness and jumpiness of the pedal, which becomes problematic when trying to slowly roll of volume.

2. Ease of Use and features
It must be noted that ease of use is probably the weakest point of this unit. The device is powered by plugging the power cable into the wall socket and straight away, you can plug your guitar in and play with the first preset. Things get much harder when you try to set up your own presets and I still have not figured out how to choose which effects exactly get triggered in stomp box mode.

A looper and drum machine are also featured in this unit, which are quite a pain unfortunately. First of all, they can not be used simultaneously. It is very tedious changing between the two while playing but the drums are amazingly versatile.

3. Sound

Probably the most important for the majority of users, is the sound of the effects. Although the presets suck, with the right amount of tweaking you can get amazing sounds out of this device. Mimicking the most famous effects and amps quite realistically, this unit gives you hundreds of possibilities. Set up a Marshall half-stack, a tube screamer 808, a touch of a Lexicon reverb and you'll hear your guitar roaring and squealing. Or you could chain up a bunch of modulation effects and make your guitar sound like aliens making out. Either way, the RP360XP recreates those effects, amps and cabs faithfully with the exception of some, like the Orange (or Citrus in the unit) model, which sounded horrible.

4. Conclusion

I know that at times it feels like I'm criticizing the pedal, but that is not the case - I am just trying to point out everything that you might not like so that you know the worst that can happen. Personally, I loved it - especially the JCM-800 model, probably the only JCM-800 imitation I actually liked. Finally, I'd like to note that for this price, it's a steal and it's the best pedal in this price range.

Wonderful all purpose toy

RichieHH, 24.02.2018
Not being a performing artist I can only report on my own home tinkering. And it does what it says on the tin. It's solidly made, has a host of parameters for the fx in the chain. The user interface is as good as you could hope without a keyboard. All in all a wonderful product for you to mess around with pedal fx.
