Blue wonder

KMH, 04.07.2014
As a passionate collector of "Cheapos" from the Far East, I needed some "Strat" ??-like.
After strolling around every month (Harley B, Squier, Johnson ...), like the famous cat around the hot mash, I stumbled over the Cobra. And I ordered them, after a few days of reflection.
The (announced) two-week waiting period put the patience to the test.
When the dispatch notification came, the usual preparation followed:
Tools, soldering irons, new strings and Kluson Lockheads.
In my experience, the probability of getting an impeccable instrument in this price class is about 70%. In most cases, screws have to be tightened, a basic setup has to be made and small soldering work is to be done. Locking mechanics are a must for tremolos anyway. It's not a witchcraft.
On the day of the delivery so well prepared everything was unpacked and expected with some work.
I was severely disappointed:

The optics:
-coat tiptop. No noses. No matt spots, nothing.
-All (!) Screws solid, nix wobbles or rattles.
-beaches cleanly dressed
-Optik anyway the hammer (alone the three-part Pickguard ...).
-The "Cobra" -letter is apparently nailed. Strange, though.

So the function test:
-Stimmen: the mechanics correspond to the price class, but work flawlessly -> exchange so first shifted.
-Hals: kerzengerade -> no need for action
-Saitenlage: so approximately middle high -> for me completely in order (for Slide already somewhat too low)
-Octavreinheit: factory clean set -> nothing to do
-Tremolo: tremoliert. Unlike my Bigsbys / Duesenbergs, but (after some habituation) completely ok. The guitar remains unstable. Have however also no Divebomb tested ... Are not my style.
-Pickups, switches and potentiometers work -> the soldering iron can remain cold
- one (really minimal) minus point: the push / pull potentiometer. Is really bad to draw because of the "hat shape" of the button. But this can be quickly and easily remedied. AND: the poti turns strangely light. Somehow, as if it is "empty". Feels funny, but does his job properly ... Let's see. If need still some lie.

For sound and playability:
Now it becomes subjective.

Even after a few weeks I still "fight" with the tremolo. The native strat player may forgive me, but I'm just used to something else.
Otherwise still nothing to complain about.
The weight (3.6 kg) depends on the belt. Nothing presses or interferes.
Me personally the highly glossy neck a bit. I will matte at times.

And the sound?

Well
The Trisonics actually sound a little different than "normal" single coils. Something fatter. As elsewhere written, more direction P90 (as approximate direction indication), but also not quite. In no case "high-gain" or so. Just a little (!) Dirty ... Hard to describe, but great!

Otherwise, all possible PU combinations can be selected by means of the P / P potentiometer. It can be realized from "twig" to "fairly bold" practically all sounds. As I said, everything in the Strat sound area. Never "Heavy". Rather bluish-bluesy-vintage rocky ... Also hard to describe.
About a slightly crooked tube, in my ears, very, very, very beautiful!

Conclusion:

I have no idea how it looks with the series streaming and quality control at Burns. At my is nothing to complain about!

I will, contrary to my plans and habits, first rumbasteln, but I simply at an unusual Strat delight!

For anyone looking for a strat slightly next to the track (in sound and look), a very clear purchase recommendation!
And to all brand fetishists: Do not let the low price frighten you!
Try and be amazed!

In this sense

Little Burns but she does the maximum!

Hervé192, 18.09.2014
Then! Great surprise! I already possessed his big sister with 12 strings of which I am absolutely in love. I wanted to acquire the equivalent in 6 strings but without spending again a thousand thousand Euros so I turned to this model (a little without conviction I have to say). First the first impression when leaving the box; We feel immediately that we have to do to "serious". Very "strat" ??in its look but very different to the touch. The key is much flatter and the neck less round (very "Ibanez" actually) but it is not embarrassing. Diapason quite short but there too, as I have small hands, no problem! Once equipped with correct strings and once the vibrato adjusted (for my part I added 2 springs which makes it more accurate and more responsive in floating position), here is the long-awaited moment and then there, plugged into a Vox AC15 , The big slap! This guitar is absolutely great. Everything goes: the sounds clear, crunch, saturated! All positions can be used and balanced. These microphones are excellent; It's a bit more bold than a Fender, absolutely silent (for simple coils) powerful enough to attack any amp, control of feedback nickel plus vibrato really stable, we surprise to revisit Hendrix, Beck and the others! Really, for 255? It's not a business, it's a killing!
