Phantom Classic
Archie F., 04.09.2013
Superb! Just be aware the features are limited to enable top notch quality (no pad or selectable patterns only cardioid). This microphone is crisp and 3D but does pick up a lot of the room so treatment is a must.

The lows are can be hyped due to proximity effect which I personally prefer but the mic sounds remarkably intimate from about 2 to 3 feet whilst having a more honest frequency response.

Sibilance can be a problem, placement will help but the mic is only representing honestly what's already there.

IMO the best mic for the price range ( and above). Brauner are offering a truly magnificent microphone for an unprecedented price!

Brauner Phanthom Classic - a very good, universal microphone
DORA Music, 23.03.2010
The first microphones that Dirk Brauner built were prohibitive for ordinary people: what normal person is already spending EUR 3,000, or EUR 4,500, for a studio vocal microphone?

Dirk Brauner initially built only expensive tube microphones, all of which were characterized by extraordinary transparency and detail. Well, finally, the Brauner-Werk showed mercy with the normal mortals, and went on to build transistor microphones; Also omitted the not necessarily vital features such as pad, low cut filter, switchable directional characteristics; And it was already in a price sector, which for ambitious semiprofessionelle studio owner in the area of ??the possibility slipped.

That's why you can not give 5 stars in the features ... the microphone does not have any - except the outstanding bright and transparent sound. The included spider gives the microphone a perfect hold and looks very good (I personally).

But as far as the sound and the processing is concerned ... full 5 stars! In addition, the microphone has a relatively high output; Which considerably reduces the possible noise with very low signals.

In very bright (almost shrill) voices I would not choose this microphone; For there can already be too much of the good. The Brauner Phanthom brings every little detail of the voice on the recording track. (Professional Tip: This requires a certain speaking discipline, the mastery suppression of mouth-sounds happening next to singing).

Conclusion: If you are looking for a high-end microphone with a very high resolution and detailed faithfulness; And does not shrink from reaching for something deeper into the pocket; Can make a great jump in quality with this microphone in his studio.
