Best Service Accordions

Karlchen, 17.09.2012
Cheap accordion sampler, but despite some gags not quite satisfied.

Function: Easy to install and operate under Windows XP.

Operation: I have found the important functions quickly by tasting.
The manual is scanty, the online field help is rich and good.

Sound: This sampler is tailored to folk accordion music (Tango, Ländler, Polka) from around 1930. Historical instruments (Concertina, Bandoneon, Harmonica, Schifferklavier) were used as templates; There are even options such as keystrokes and Sforzato. Although this is quite my goal, I miss the noble sounds of a modern, high-quality accordion.

The strength of the reverberation is adjustable, but the reverberation is not; The given hall type seems to me to be cathedral-like and does not fit rightly to the national music in the open or in the pub.

Strange: The instruments sound an octave higher than recorded in MIDI.

If you want to quickly create a one-button chord accompaniment corresponding to the left hand of the skipper, you will find a special instrument with corresponding MIDI notation.

Unfulfilled wish: The volume of an accordion results from the bellows pressure and is therefore the same for polyphonic playing for all voices; Classically oriented musicians consider this essential feature of the instrument as a defect. More beautiful accordion music could be produced if a separate volume could be assigned to each note in the polyphonic play. In MIDI format, this is done by the "Note Velocity".

In principle, the evaluation of the Velocity note in the "Contact Player", which plays the samples, would probably be present; However, this function has been disabled for the playback of accordion samples because the accordion's particularity is to be enforced. The volume of the instruments can therefore not be controlled as usual via the MIDI signal "Note Velocity" which is set for each note, but unfortunately only via a MIDI control change, eg via CC11 "Expression", or via the instrument for all instruments Central modulation wheel.

After initial irritation I resigned myself thereby and digitize my folk accordion favorites first in the usual way in the General MIDI format. In order to apply the accordion samples, I then convert all Note Velocities into the volume controller CC11 in the MIDI sequencer.

Good

7 instruments quite different and a kind of harmonica.
The sounds are correct but lack punch except the bandoneon which benefits from the sforzato (for blows suddenly strong).

The main problem is that this plugin is not sensitive to the pressure and even increasing the volume in the list of events is not taken into account.
It is imperative to use an external control (modulation wheel for example).
Also, the sustain pedal operates in reverse (you have to press to stop the sound!).

Despite everything I use it quite often and with satisfactory results.
