Voice Channel - also compared to the UA Solo610

Stefan8104, 06.12.2013
Everything that is found on the Internet via the Voice Channel reads very well. Only the price made me a little stupid. I had actually already decided for the UA Solo610, which however costs just twice. Just because of this, I wanted to give the Voicechannel but a chance. So I compared both devices, then to decide for what I like better.

I took various language passages in the Radiomoderation style with male and female voice, as well as male singing with cajon and ukulele. All recordings I made under exactly the same conditions as possible with a Brauner Phantom AE microphone.

SOUND:
I immediately notice that the UA Solo610 has a dark and also rough sound, which sounded very adult and solid. I then listened to the recordings with the Voice Channel suddenly everything began to radiate, sounded very bulging and bold. I must confess that I immediately liked the recordings of the Voice Channels. But I compared objectively.
The more I compared the more I found the UA solo "interesting" and "special", the Voice Channel just "great". More and more, I felt the Voice Channel as the bikini model, which always makes a great figure everywhere, the UA Solo the character and more interesting beauty, which one must like however.

There were also recordings, where the sound of the two devices was hardly distinguishable. The longer I picked up and the equipment to use well, the more they sounded. Often one reads that the Voice Channel sounds rather clean and the UA solo colors more. You can not express it so crassly.
I mainly make music in the electronic field or hip hop and found the sound of the voice channel more appropriate.
So I decided for the Voice Channel and am glad about the saved money.

FEATURES
In addition, the Voice Channel is a complete channel strip, which is much more versatile and offers possibilities to screw on the sound. These EQ, Dynamic Sections, etc. I have but not yet tested.

The UA Solo offers an XLR input and jack as a DI box, but only one of them is usable :-( So singer with guitar with pickup pickup will not do anything.

The voice changer on the Voice Channel makes a sonic difference, the sound is firmer and lederier. At the switch Tube Voltage high / low I still hear no difference.

HAPTIK / PROCESSING:
Here I have to call the UA Solo610 the winner. The device looks cool, is smaller / lighter and therefore better on the road, the two large controls are just fun. The VoiceChannel has small and many close-coupled controls. However, it is still sturdy and taut, nothing jiggles or turns too lightly.

The Voice Channel is thus:
1. in spite of low price really class and needs the comparison to the UA Solo not shy
2. not as clean as often claimed, because as coloring in comparison as expected, I did not find the UA Solo now.

An enrichment of my reception chain

AL-X, 08.05.2013
This channel strip has really enriched my recording chain. Vocals are now in the mix right now. But also a directly played bass is good over. The EQ works well and unobtrusively. The compression can be used very well during recording. The tube saturation is also audible (if desired).
Only a small negative point. The device is so "wide" that it does not fit into my 19 'millenium rack because of 1 mm. I think that is very sad.
