Alto TS312

steini6850, 06.05.2018
I was looking for new tops for my 18 inch bass foundation. In the first place at church events up to 300 people. As a mixer, I use the Soundcraft UI16 and the Subs are equipped with Obertone 18XB700 and can full 1000W RMS and 2000W peak per piece.

Optics:
The look is absolutely top. For a plastic box, it looks very valuable and feels good too. The pots are running clean and the buttons react as intended. The grid is very sturdy and secured behind the grid with a foam again against moisture.
As a negative point, I see the vulnerability of the plastic. This has already on the first day with me optical scratches in the form of grayish discoloration, which makes them look quickly worn in everyday life. But that has to prove itself. Here I recommend like almost all boxes to use a shell.

handling:
The Alto TS312 has four handles (right / left and up / down) which you always well worn, put on a tripod or packed. In addition, you can screw them on the tripod.
The monitor slope is well chosen on both sides, which makes it stable. In addition, it has small rubber feet on the ground and at the slopes which makes it very good on slippery surfaces. Due to the low weight and the good arrangement of the handles you can easily lift them on a tripod.

Sound in general
I have measured the box with my Beyerdynamik MM1 calibrated measuring times and am amazed at the Freqeunzverlauf. It goes smoothly down to 56 Hz., Resulting in a -3dB at 53 Hz and then steeply downwards, so that a -10dB at 50Hz is already reached. I measured on a tripod in the middle of a larger room.
In the midrange, the Alto TS312 is relatively neutral. The transition to the tweeter seems well completed. However, at 130Hz to 400Hz, the box has a + 3dB boost, giving voices a pleasant sound.
The tweeter, on the other hand, disenchanted against the very good bass. Up to 12.2KHz is 0dB and then a strong drop. About 15.5KHz, the box is definitely not with her very strong tweeter. -3dB at 13KHz and -10dB at 17KHz.

Perceived sound:
The bass is really huge, coming from the Alto. When you turn on the EQ bass at 60Hz, it really comes out bass. However, you have to be aware that she comes in full range then quickly to her X-MAX. Ie depending on the music style then no more than 110dB on 1m distance in it (80Hz 8dB increase), because then not the limiter, but the Sub Limited. But until then the bass sounds really good. Since it has no sound control or a DSP, the Alto is only to operate with a mixer or controller, as they are not sure first on the entire sound. For friends of the Plug and Play the Alto is not a good choice. After adjusting the EQ, it sounds very good and can drive a very heavy level with bass support. I think 2x 18 "subs per Alto TS312 are easily in it (currently have only one per page) with a LowCut Alto at 109Hz with> 18dB The 1000W RMS of AMPs are probably never exploitable by the woofer and the tweeter Feeling that never touches the limiter LED, so reserve without end.
After setting music for canned music over the middle range of -4dB, the box also sounds very appealing to electronic or rock music in particular. Where many instruments are used eg Classic I would definitely recommend to a more expensive top. What bothers me a bit is the very large background noise of the box, that I'm not used to my other amps. Therefore, she is not suitable for theater use. Of course you can not hear that anymore when music is playing. Therefore rather neglected for concerts. Unfortunately, the noise does not decrease, even if you reset the levels to 0.

Conutour Switch:
The Countour counter I think not very well thought out. By pressing this button, at the threshold of 1KHz below and above, each will be raised like an X over the full frequency range, with the 1KHz representing the zero point. The highest and lowest frequencies are each raised by 3dB and then like a shelf with the rest. I do not like it at all in the sound picture.

Coverage:
I am surprised that you even sitting tightly under the box still gets a clean sound, so you can until shortly before the tripod (about 1m distance at ground level of the box of about 1.6m) people put. Even after the pages, it plays very evenly and at an angle it sounds almost a bit better than directly.

As a monitor:
As a monitor, it sounds very good also due to the large radiation behavior. I recommend 1m distance in my size of 1.86m, but in an emergency also closer, but at about 1-4m sounds best. As a monitor for guitar, bass and electric drums, I think the Alto is absolutely successful and has really absolute reserves.

Conclusion:
If, like me, you have a digital console or an appropriate controller or EQ, you can get a lot out of the box for really little money. However, without missing something.
For mobile DJs as well as live music up to max. 400-500 people with min. 2x 18 "inch subs per side or on middle stages as a monitor feels the Alto TS312 well. The 800W current consumption for the 1000W AMP one believes immediately in the level and bass foundation.

surprise Alto

DenniPA, 22.08.2018
I was looking for a top part for my subwoofer.
and I found out the Alto TS 312.
I used this Active Speaker at gigs or for outdoor fire events.
First of all the design, it looks super good and offers enough protection for the components.

The amplifier unit has been reduced to the essential here. you are looking for an equalizer here in vain. But positive is the ground switch.
All controls and knobs are fixed and do not wobble.
A little negative, I feel that you can not switch the front LED.

The sound is very full for this, the Alto presents a very deep and clear sound and that you can use it without a bass support.

My conclusion:
I'll buy right back !!
Despite small deficiencies over weighs the positives.
Price-performance here almost exactly agree
