The best Epiphone I've ever played
Leikkers 31.03.2020
This guitar is fantastic. I've had it for a month now and I have been 100% satisfied with it. I've also had no problems with it.

- Sound.
This guitar handles distortion like an SG. The humbuckers have a thick and full sound, but since this is an SG, the guitar has real nice brightness to it. Unlike some older Epiphones and many other guitars with humbuckers, these humbuckers don't sound dull AT ALL. They have lots of clarity, which makes playing cleans very nice.

- Looks.
This is a matter of taste, of course, but this guitar looks stunning. The paint job is done perfectly, and it shines! The rose gold -type colour (purple passion) just looks amazing. The flake paint makes it shine in a good light. It's not tasteless though: the glimmer is not over-the-top.

- Versatility.
Coil splits for both pickups and a phase switch to switch the pickups out of phase when used together come in handy when playing clean: the single coil sounds give the guitar more brightness and clarity, and the out of phase option is nice to have, though I don't use it that much.
With the coil splits and out of phase you can have 12 different settings! My favourite when playing clean is to have both pickups on, neck pickup as a humbucker and bridge split into a single coil. With distortion and the pickups out of phase, and maybe one of the tones rolled off, you can get pretty convincing "cocked wah" sound.
Also, if you play with distortion, you can save the full humbucker sounds for the main riff or solo, and use the split mode for verses. It's definitely not too thin for that and you get a nice volume and midrange boost when you switch back to the full humbucker.

- Playability.
The fret ends are nicely rounded and there are absolutely no sharp fret ends, not even any hint of sharpness. The guitar needed some adjustment with action (trussrod and bridge), but that is quite normal, especially when the guitar was shipped from Germany to Finland in the middle of winter. After the adjustment, the guitar plays just as well as you would want any guitar to play. There is nothing to complain about.

- The frets are not polished well. You can hear that (and sometimes feel) when you bend on the higher frets. It hasn't bothered me much, but if it starts to, it's an easy fix.

- You have to roll off the volumes really low before it starts to affect the volume, when you play with distortion. Before that, it only makes it a little bit cleaner. For some, this might be a pro instead of a con.

Other things to note!

- I changed the strings from the factory 10s to 9-46. That's just my preference but made the guitar much easier to play.

- NECK DIVE! This is obviously a problem with all the SGs (at least every single one I've ever played). I found a way to fix it quite easily, which does not require any new strap button holes to be drilled - simply a thick and wide strap. It gives you so much friction that the guitar stays in place and does not do the neck dive.

Overall, this guitar is brilliant. It's also very cool that it's a complete Epiphone original, with only the SG body shape coming from Gibson.
