Luftigt och transparent

Perfekt för lyssning som komplement till monitorer. Förvånansvärt bra och naturtrogen basåtergivning. Sitter bra men blir något varma.

A
honest headphones
Anonym 23.01.2016
I've had Beyerdynamic dt990pro for a long time and thought it'd be interesting to compare the two. Bare in mind that I've only had the AKG a week and they aren't fully warmed up yet, but my first impressions are obvious enough.

Where the AKG is worse is the soundstage. The BD have a wider field where the panning seems to be spread more. The AKGs sound closer to the head. The result is that the BD sound more 'light' while the AKG more closed in. I'd almost compare it to open and closed, but not in the sense of physically open and closed cups. The AKG bleed more as well.

However, the BD are considerably worse in the high mids and the lows. The sound is very nice but they seem to be too forgiving. The AKG however are more honest, but less of a joy to listen to. Listening to my mixes I definitely notice a trend of putting the snare too sharp or too high in volume, which i had to with the BD to let them cut through the mix, which was an endless source of frustration. With other music the high mids are on the edge, everything seems to be more present than the BD and if you make a mistake, the AKG will reveal the mistakes. I expected a little more bass in the AKG but i'll refrain from judgement till they've settled, at least there is enough low to make a good mix and hear the full spectrum. The highs are right where they should be, clear and sparkly.

When mixing you want to switch between headphones and monitors and they both have strenghts and weaknesses and having a combo that works is paramount. I feel now, i've at least resolved an issue by buying headphones that actually do their job as studioheadphones. Even if I'd rather use the BD for listening, I'd buy the AKG instead.

They are very light. It's very comfortably that way but it makes one wonder a bit about the buildquality, but hey, that might just be prejudicial, and isn't relevant to the sound.

Awesome headphones

These are awesome. They are obviously not flat but with a little tweaking after finding the frequency response on the web, they play pretty flat. I'm in love with open-back, these are my first pair and the comfort is very good.
If I had any critique, it'd be that they sit a bit tight, and I don't have a big head.

Best open-back price/quality.

AKG K-612 Pro is my second pair of high quality headphones. I had to ditch my Audio-Technica ATH-M50 in favor of this open-back model because of my chronic otitis (wearing closed-back M-50 during the day didn't help the treatment at all). I use headphones every day for work, making music, etc. And I must say my ears don't itch anywhere as much as before, so I highly recommend these headphones to anyone with ear problems.

K-612 sounds absolutely incredible. Just as good as M-50 in response, even in bass range, but with slightly different scene. Really no complaints here whatsoever.

The comfort level is pretty high, but I find the need to reposition the angle of the headband every now and then to maintain the comfort during long periods of use. The headband itself is just not that soft, so my skin doesn't like it. I think this may be more problematic for bald people, but I may be wrong.

I don't have any complaints quality-wise: everything is smooth, sturdy and nice to touch. I do have some concerns about the construction, though. Headband plastic bits look like they can break easily if dropped from a decent height, and I also don't like the usage of rubber bands for the auto-height adjustment, since they might stretch too much over time. But I din't see any comlaints about either of these nitpicks in other reviews, and unless any problems actually occur, it's a solid 5 star from me.

And last, but not least: anything you listen, no matter how quite the volume is, will be audiable for surrounding people. This is expected from open-back construsction, though.

All in all AKG K-612 Pro is a great choice for a fair price, if you absolutely need open-back construction headphones.
