Monitor control is one of the simplest but most important aspects of any studio setup. Not only does a hardware monitor controller protect you from any nasty surprises if the digitally controlled output of your audio interface plays up, but hands-on control of monitoring levels, mono summing and speaker selection can seriously improve workflow. I was very keen to take a closer look at the M-Patch 2, a simple monitor controller with a passive signal path and an enticingly low price.
