One-way systems, like most headphones, use a single full-frequency driver. The basic shape of the earpiece may be modified by choosing from a number of foam or silicon pads included with the set. Compared with two-way systems, one-way systems are usually rather bass light; this may be countered by the use of a bass shaker (see below).
As these earpieces use mainly use the same technology as consumer earphones, they tend to be moderately priced and are therefore popular with amateur and semi-professional users as well as rental companies. One-way designs can also be very small and practically invisible to the audience.
