Studio quality via USB

Rode’s NT-USB is a USB condenser microphone with an excellent signal-to-noise ratio that will bring studio-quality sound to any desktop with a device running Windows, MacOS, or iOS. A compatible USB adapter is required to connect it to an iPad, such as the Apple Camera Connection Kit. The Rode NT-USB microphone comes fully equipped with a table tripod and matching 3/8” ring mount, a metallic pop shield, a six-metre USB cable, and a carrying case to protect it from dust and dirt. Furthermore, Rode offers a free two-year manufacturer warranty once the microphone is registered online.

With balance control for individual monitoring

The Rode NT-USB is fitted with a cardioid 1.27 cm capsule. It measures 184 x 62 x 50mm and weighs a reassuring 520 grams. The manufacturer specifies a frequency response ranging from 20 to 20000 Hz, a maximum sound pressure level of 110 dB SPL, and a dynamic range of 96 dB. The integrated AD converter works at samples rates of up to 16 bit / 48 kHz. The NT-USB also features a 3.5 mm headphone jack with a dedicated volume control that allows you to directly monitor its output signal before it reaches your PC or MAC setup.

An affordable solution for all creators

The Australian manufacturer Rode is renowned for the excellent workmanship, studio-quality sound, and useful integrated features of its products. The NT-USB is no exception and will provide an ideal solution for all creators looking for an affordable, high-performance, cross-platform, and adaptable recording solution which will function equally well in a home studio or desktop environment and on the road in a mobile recording setup (using an iPad for example) – notably with the use of dedicated applications such as GarageBand or the Rode Reporter app. So, there is no denying that the NT-USB offers a very attractive price/performance ratio.

About Rode

Founded in Sydney, Australia in 1990, Rode is a specialist in high-quality studio microphones. With its very first in-house, completely Australian-built model, the NT2 large-diaphragm microphone, the company created a classic which is still produced in its current and enhanced version, the NT2-A. An extensive range of studio and live microphones has also been added, regularly updated, and expanded over the years. These new additions include a variety of professional microphones which are designed for video and mobile applications and can be connected directly to SLR cameras or smartphones.

For vocal and instrumental recording

Thanks to its table tripod, the Rode NT-USB can easily be placed on any desk to record podcasts, voiceovers, or audio books. The supplied pop shield is particularly useful when it comes to applications of this kind, since it prevents the unwanted plosive sounds that can easily occur without a filter, and it is simply fixed to the microphone's base. Of course, the NT-USB itself can be mounted onto any other regular microphone stand, thanks to its standard 3/8" thread. This allows you to use it freely for any vocal or instrument recording and position it exactly as you need it.

E
A microphone of solid quality, at a mostly reasonable price
Eddlicious 15.01.2018
I've used the Rode NT-USB to play and record my singing and guitar playing at the same time, and for my first ever condenser microphone it has been a delight.

PROS:
+ The quality of sound is very good, with high pitched sounds not causing any distortion if you've got your audio settings in check
+ Microphone has an audio jack built in to it, so that you can listen to your own voice through a headset, which is practical for those learning to sing
+ Quite literally plug and play, with it only taking as long to get working as your computer takes to recognize it
+ I've had no complaints about background noise when used to converse with VOIP (Voice Over IP, voice chat - e.g. Skype)
+ Microphone's build is very robust, it being primarily made out of metal, yet comfortably weighed

CONS:
- The plastic stand is not quite heavy enough to support the microphone in most positions
- Microphone doesn't have its own gain and volume knobs, which limits the amount of adjustments you can make to its sound.

Overall the Rode NT-USB is a microphone of decent quality, at a relatively affordable price.

c
No more micro/voice complaints
cha* 22.03.2021
This is a great microphone for both work and streaming/gaming. The sound is crystal clear and pleasant to listen to. The first reaction I received, without mentioning a new mic was "you sound crystal clear, what a difference..new mic?" Safe to say, this was an excellent purchase.

The microphone is well built and has some weight to it, It looks nice too. If I had to pick one con, it would be the plastic stand but this is not an issue at all. I do not believe this microphone has a mute option, but I must say I have not looked much into this as I use a stream deck to mute/unmute my mic.

Furthermore, this microphone is significantly larger than the rode usb mini. Something to bare in mind.

Before I made the purchase, I was looking at the Shure SM7B Microphone, which adds a bit more body to the voice; This is a very popular mic among streamers, but it also costs 2-3x the amount of the rode nt-usb and does not come with a stand (I think).

All in all, a great microphone for everyday use.

Frustrating experience but it's kept me going for a few years
blanckq 30.10.2022
This is just my own personal experience with it, I'm certain the other reviews from audio nuts give it more props than I can but I'm coming from a many years of use.

Just going to state my grievances:
- Included table stand is awful. Input is much to sensitive to keyboard and table bumps, had to constantly keep adjusting input threshold. Putting it on an arm is necessary. Cheap and awkward design.
- Cable input on the mic is faulty and temperamental.
- Knobs are glued on and easy to pop off, and there's not even a small notch to guide the roller inside if it were to pop off. Also no gain knob?
- Pop filter and mic paint finish is very easy to scratch into
- Mic level on Windows can sometimes reset itself for whatever reason. Not sure if it is a firmware thing or Windows being Windows.

Rode NT-USB
André Delamar 17.12.2021
Dignity
- Sound quality (probably the best USB condenser microphone I've owned).
- Australian build, reliability, body materials.
- Completion, appearance.
Flaws
- Some users break the pop filter (not the most durable stand and pop construction in the world), but have not encountered it myself.
An excellent choice if you don't want to bother buying an audio card, tripod, pop filter, etc. All in one, it also sounds great.
