Another brilliant utility from Doepfer

This is a really useful module for enhancing the rhythmic possibilities of your euro-rack system. Great for generating snare or tom type rolls as well as making previously straight 16th sequences more complex by adding extra steps and skips. Also fun to trigger envelope-vca to apply complex pulses to your audio. Many uses.

The A-160-5 is only 4hp wide, so if your looking for a bit of clock fun in not much room it is a good option.

There are other multipliers out there - this by Doepfer is a bit different, as it offers 3 unique types of multiplication (all 3 going to a max of x 16), selectable by a simple toggle switch. In addition the the amount of multiplication can be set with the front panel knob or controlled by a voltage.

This means, you can either wiggle the knob to adjust the multiplications as desired, or more interestingly, send a sequencer, envelope or LFO voltage to get the multiplications dancing around. When the control voltage is inserted the knob has no function - so you may want to use an attenuator when cv-ing from a envelope or LFO.

I have deducted 1 star on the features because of this (the knob could have been made to perform this function when under cv control IMHO)

There are LED's for the input clock and multiplied clock output, so you get a visual representation of what's happening.

A point to note if you have not used a multiplier before... it can not predict the future! So, it needs a few established clocks before it can accurately spit out the multiplied clocks correctly. Obviously it also needs the clocks to be regular in order to perform accurate multiplication.

Great fun and as usual for Doepfer, great value and solid build quality.

Works like a charm

At first I was a bit confused about the interpretation of "multiplier" and "divider", depending from what perspective. I mean, mathematically to divide means to make less and to multiply means to make more. But here it is the other way around ;-) Anyway, this module does not need a user manual, is straightforward to use as all explanation is printed on the device itself. Works like a charm. When patching to another hole, it first finishes off the current cycle, which for me is very neat.
