Soundcraft efx 8 great compact mixer with classic lexicon reverb

Total rating

The Soundcraft EFX 8 is a great portable mixer with the added bonus of classic Lexicon reverbs and effects, in my opinion, it stands out a mile in quality from its Behringer alternative! granted, you pay a bit more for Soundcraft and Lexicon, but, at the end of the day you have to ask yourself if it sounds better, then is it worth investing in a few quid more? And at the end of the day, we are still dealing with the analogue side of the coin so the price is not going to be that different anyway. The mid sweep is very useful and not always included on smaller mixers. In summary, this is an ideal mixer that will do a bit of everything and provide quality recognisable outputs. A sound investment, it also fits very well into a padded case, therefore, keeping the weight issue down but still keeping it safe.

Robust buld, Great Sounding and great looks

I originally had a similar Soundcraft 6 channel mixer - without the onboard FX. This was my main reason for updating to EFX model, as I need to have good fx handy for gigs.

Honestly, a few months on and I'm still trying to get decent results with the fx. They sound good but take a good bit of tweaking to get the mix you need. You control the level of the effects manually with the various knobs. This means that for each effect, you have to adjust 4 knobs, to alter the different parameters of the effect. The advantages of this are obviously that you have a lot of control of the sound and size of the effect. This disadvantages are that takes good bit of getting used to, tweaking and level adjustments to get your desired sound.

Has a lovely sounding EQ section with sweepable mids.

Nice clean mic preamps too.

It's a robustly build mixer with good looks and sounds. A very capable little desk from a reputable brand.

Good quality and price mixer

No big complaints really. It's good!!

We use the embedded Lexicon sounds processor a lot, and the only problem there is that with this size of equipment the tweaking/selection/visibillity of sounds is not too good. But to be honest this is probably just nit-picking.

The sound quality is great, it's well designed; hard to imagine how I would fit the same functionality better into the same small space. We've had it for 1.5 years, about 10 gigs plus all the rehearsal. Works like a charm.

I'll recommend this one. Three stars for handling is just for the Lexicon part - the sound is great but the usability has been a small challenge ... :)
