I exchanged this guitar for a Gibson 50's Les Paul Tribute model which couldn't keep tune and the playability was not what I'd expected. I'd read good reviews about the Bernie Marsden in guitar magazines - most of which said it was excellent value for a guitar costing less than 1000 and I wasn't dissapointed. First thing is the build quality which for the price is so much better than the Les Paul tribute I had returned - the finish was superb and included binding, quality hard ware - the neck is glued on and everything felt solid and good quality. The tuners look like traditional Klusons but I believe they are PRS - they did the job and the guitar hardly needs retuning between playing sessions.
The sound is very vintage rock giving you sounds reminiscent of 70s/80s rock but also gives you some good heavy metal sounds too. I played it through a Marshall valve and it sounds great. It has a decent out of phase sound too. The guitar is very playable although the action could probably be improved (which I might look at once it has bedded in)
On the whole I would say if you're looking to spend less than a grand on guitar which is orientated towards rock music you could not go far wrong the PRS BM. I rate it as a better guitar than the Gibsons at a similar price.
