Even the best guitar, amp, speaker and microphone in the hands of the finest engineer and producer in the world will not make a poor guitarist sound great. Guitarists have many different styles and techniques, and capturing them will require you to adopt different methods and to use different equipment. However, a good understanding of the basics, plenty of experimentation and a good deal of patience will go a long way to achieving that killer sound.
Above all, the unique sound of a guitarist is down to a combination of the equipment and the individual style of the artist themselves, although give David Gilmour Carlo Santana’s guitar and amp, and he will probably still sound like David Gilmour!
