brilliant machine, not just for the price but in general. fun, intuitive and with a much bigger sound than you'd expect from such an inexpensive piece of kit.

This is a great little drum machine. Small, portable, affordable, great sound, this is one I'll keep for a long time.

Great booming kick, lovely clap, classic analogue hi-hats. My only gripe is the snare isn't quite as punchy as it could be, but this can easily be solved by putting it through some effects afterwards. A great feature is that some of the sounds can be split off using individual outputs at the back, this is a feature that many other budget drum machines just wouldn't have!

The step-sequencer is good, but a minor annoyance is that you need to hold "Shift" to place drum hits on off beats, a small penalty to pay considering this thing is smaller than any drum machine I've ever encountered.

Awesome little device from MFB!

A good analog drumbox for the price

The build quality is a bit shoddy - some of the potentiometers were super stiff when I got my purchase. Other than that I am very pleased with the 522. A solid product for the price.

If you're looking for an authentic 808 experience, you're out of luck, as the hihats do not sound like a TR-808. But other than that, the 522 delivers a nice analog 808ish sound.

Nice little analog drum machine/sequencer

I stumbled across this in a YouTube video and thought it was exactly what I wanted, a nice simple step based analog sounding drum machine. It was mostly better than I expected, and smaller too.

Being step based (rather than "tick" based) makes it really easy to use, though having eight buttons for 16 steps is a little tricky, and likewise bit fiddly to get to all the different tom/conga pitches. On the other hand when the "fill-in" feature is enabled it's suddenly a 32-step machine.

The icing on the cake is having individual (mono) outputs for the bass, snare/rim, clap and hi-hats - when plugged in the corresponding drum is removed from the main (stereo) output allowing you to, for example, run one or more of these to its own mixer channel and use an insert effect. Be warned though, this is a small unit and uses 3.5mm output jacks rather than quarter-inch (6.3mm) jacks. I found that "Doepfer adapter cables" work well for the individual outputs.

Overall very pleased with this unit.

Worth the price for the lush 808-style kick alone. Not particularly robust for gigs etc, but great bit of kit for the studio.
