Via the size categories (S, M, L, XL, XXL) or via the manufacturer classifications
(7A, 5A, 5B, 2B) on the left side you can select the size of your preferred drumstick.
Note: Since the size categories 7A – 2B of the different manufacturers have not been implemented consistently and many models (for example signature sticks of famous drummers) do not even have an official size category, the woodpicker searches after one click on one of these categories the appropriate sticks by means of common reference models and not by means of the category given by the manufacturer.
There is no other possibility to compare the sticks of different manufacturers.
However you still have direct access to all sticks which have been assigned to one of the four categories via the left navigation bar .
Further search options
Once you have made a pre-selection you can refine your search with the four sliders (length, diameter, punch and deal factor) as well as with the tip and manufacturer fields.
Example: You would like to have a drum stick like Dave Weckl, but with more punch?
Nothing could be simpler: just click Dave Weckl in the artist field and pull the punch slider a bit further to the top.
At the bottom of the woodpicker panel you can also show further search criteria like material, price range etc. to restrict the search for the perfect stick even further.
If the woodpicker cannot find any appropriate results with your parameters (size, slider and tip)and all selected restrictions and with the search filter (e.g. manufacturer, price range, material), you can go back to the start of your search anytime by using the ”reset” button.
The drum stick features
We saved the physical factors like length, diameter, weight distribution etc. for all drum sticks in our product range and through these factors the playing characteristics of every stick are calculated.
To get a quick overview over the features of a stick, a features diagram will be shown, with which you can see the characteristics like (D=diameter, P= punch, S=speed, R=rebound, W= weight, L=length) of every model at a glance.
If you click on the product picture or on the features diagram you will get a detailed view of these areas.
Punch means with how much power or impact a stick hits the drum. With an elaborate scan procedure the mass distribution of all drumsticks has been analysed to calculate the torque and analogue to this the punch of the sticks.
As a rule of thumb the following applies:
The plainer the shoulder of a stick, the lower is its punch.
Speed describes how “fast” a stick can be played, that means how fast it can be moved from its rest position.
Naturally, a very strong drummer can play every drumstick speedily, however with sticks with a low speed value he needs much more effort and might tire earlier. On the other hand he could play much speedier with the same effort if he would play a stick with a higher speed value.
Rebound defines how quickly a stick is thrown back after hitting the drum skin.
As a thumb rule the following applies: The more balanced the mass distribution is in front and behind the hand, the easier the stick can commute and the higher is the rebound value..
To make it easier for you to compare with other drumsticks (e.g. the ones you already played or the ones of your drum heroes), there is a comparison mode in the woodpicker . Just select an artist or define any drumstick as a reference via the button and you will be shown this model and all drumsticks similar to this model. After that you can adjust the parameters freely - the reference stick will stay as the first entry on the list, to allow you the best comparison of the playing features possible.
