Total Guitar (1/2009) Testfazit:
Stick a blindfold on a guitar snob and theyll swear this is a mid-price Strat. That boring body is contoured in all the right places, giving you free reign over a neck that is sensibly pitched between fast and fat, and offers fledgling players a decent platform for learning. The only conceivable criticism is that it feels a little generic, dealing in all styles but excelling at none. You might argue the same applies to the tone. The 112V is easily the most adaptable model in the test, delivering a decent Strat quack from the singlecoils and scoring with a bridge humbucker that has decent weight behind it for rock and blues licks. Again, our only issue is its slight lack of sonic identity, with the balanced tone covering all bases but never quite polarising its audience. Maybe thats the point. There are saucier models in this Group Test, but for now, were calling this the all-rounder.

The Pacifica 112V remains not only the perfect start-up guitar for the serious student, but also a solid, reliable choice whatever your age or ability
Guitarist (4/2007) Testfazit:
The added tweaks to this 2007 Pacifi ca 112 simply make what was already a perfectly good guitar better. It remains the absolute perfect start-up guitar for the serious student. Yes, there are cheaper no-brand instruments in abundance, but as weve said time and time again at Guitarist if you want an instrument thatll grow with you, the Pacifi ca remains, in a crowded market place, one of the best places to start. ||||Aside from the instrument itself which lets face it after being in production for 14 years should be pretty good there is the issue of consistency. This, in our opinion, is where Yamaha really scores. This writer really cant remember playing, reviewing or owning a Yamaha guitar that hasnt been, for the price, superbly built. Perhaps thats one reason why many professional teachers and players will recommend a Pacifi ca 112 to youngsters and students alike.||||But the truth is the 112 is a good guitar whatever your age or ability. Its ideal as an affordable spare if you own a few instruments and ideal too for a bit of hot-rodding. Heres to another 14 years and more of the 112.

As a physical player, its as good as the person holding it, with the maple neck coaxing riffs off your fingers and the smooth run of the rosewood board reminding TG of Yamahas attention to detail. Of course, its the pickups that really lift the 112V above the pack, from the fat bark of the bridge humbucker (it can be split via the tone control) to the Strat-baiting snap of the singlecoils. Yamaha was right guitars dont need to be complicated when theyre this freakin good.
